Others have posted their close encounters of the ornithological kind. This morning I had my first actual contact. Many times I have ridden up to a flock of pigeons and had them flutter up right in front of me, but today one actually brushed my cheek with its wing. Glad it didn't get completely in my face!

This must be a day for birds. On my commute back to work, I rode about 1/2 mile down hill in formation with a big red tail hawk. I was doing about 30 MPH & he was gliding along about 30' up & 30' to my right. Just cruising along looking at each other. When I hit the level road, he drifted away, still gliding. Don

My helmet has been touched by magpies before, as has my right ear on a couple of occasions  . I was also swarmed by King Parrots and Lorikeets up at O'Reillys one time
However, we don't have a large pidgeon population around here.

Rainman:
Pigeons are also called, "Rock Doves." Why? I guess they lived in cliffs and such until we built our own. They are the strangest of all birds, to me. They are truely, "citified." You can walk (or ride) up to them at any pace (even cars) and they take their sweet time about moving. Not squirrels :) I've seen pigeons cross the road and be missed by inches from passing cars and not even blink (well, pigeons blinking I've not yet seen, but ya know...)
What was the question?

Rainman When I first read this. I thought you had been crapped on by that bird. I had that happen years ago. (yuk)
The closest I have to been to a bird while riding was about 10' by a duck. I think he was racing me. He paced me for about 1/4 mile on a down hill going 25 to 30 mph, Until the road flattened out. He could easily turned the speed on and dusted me. That was a very impressive show of speed!
You better get that checked out if a pigeon touched you... :p

Pidgeons can flap a nasty dust, so hold your breath. They carry more disease than rats, and love to fly at cycling speed, at head height. I hate them.
