Training & Nutrition - Is this program too outdated for mtb racing?

Hi

in the mtb racing forum I asked a question about a training program

another user posted the following

it is from 1998 but is this good program to start with.... keeping in mind next year (may) is when our race season starts so I have almost 6 months to prepare for the season since the first race us usually mid may and it's mid Nov now.

I'm' not sure I understand all of the concepts but I see how you start off with the base and gradually do less zone 2 work and force yourself to work more in zone 3 and zone 4 as you approach race season. This gets your body used to dealing with the lactic acid build up and reducing it more efficiently

I do plan on giving Friels book a read but a new edition is due in early January so I'm waiting no that since the last pub date for his book was 2003(if memory serves me correctly) and I'm sure some things have changed that will make the new edition worth waiting on.

my goal next season is just to do respectable... mid pack finishes would be awesome in the sport category for me. we only have Sport and Elite for my age in my area

Those are pretty standard concepts that I doubt will go out of date any time soon. The actual plan there is pretty vague, but it will get you on the right track until you get Friel's book.
