Advocacy & Safety - Cab Driver Severs Leg of Cyclist During Confrontation

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have since seen on local news that the cabbie has been caught and his cab, with a large dent in the rear drivers' side corner located at the driver's home. Apparently, he had injuries consistent with a beating, though it was not clear whether these are injuries suffered from inflicting a beating or receiving one. Police are questioning why it took the driver 3 hours for the cabbie to call saying there had been an attempted robbery.
Pure speculation here, but I'll bet the cyclist was commuting in to work and somehow became involved in a dispute with a driver after the cabbie pulled some stunt. Just guessing of course, but it's an educated guess. Cabs are among the worst dangers we face here. The cabbie probably became enraged and slammed his cab into the cyclist then paniced, went home, made up a story about a robbery and called police. The robbery story just doesn't work for me as witnesses said they heard a loud and long argument. Robberies don't usually involve prolonged discussion, after all. It all seems sketchy.

judging by the time frame, id say it was more likely a trip home from the bar than a trip to work.
This obviously wouldn't have happened if the cyclist had taken the lane.

Ah, Advocacy & Safety, the first and foremost in speculation and assigning blame.

I don't see what's wrong with speculation when the person speculating declares it as such right off the bat... as the OP did...
It's when we're pretending that it's fact that gets us into trouble.
Especially when the OP's speculation is in response to the speculation contained in the article.

Then again we see how many people here get assaulted by cars and don't call it in, rather attacking the driver and leaving the scene...
Again, cyclists and drivers are the same.
What was the taxidrivers name? Wonder if he's in Canada legally
