Texas - Help with purchase

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I know NOTHING about bikes and I need some good resources to research a purchase. I need a quality bike for someone who plans to casually ride (5-20 mile rides) on a weekly basis. Any help with brands, retailers, accessories, websites, etc. would be really helpful.
Thanks!!

Hi Amy,
Almost any decent bike will do. Probably the $200-$400 price range will get you a nice hybrid or comfort bike that's suitable.
If you post your location / city / part of town we can recommend a good bike shop. Stay away from Wal-Mart / Target / Sports Authority type places, go to a real bike shop.
Or you could go used, but I only recommend that if you already know bikes pretty well and know what to look for.

Sounds like you need a hybrid... you definitely need to go to a bike shop though and stay away from the big box store bikes.
