Has anyone got any pix of Travis's rig? The one with the 'stache bars and the fabbed up fork? I've seen a little of it in some Trek ads and I think I saw it in a mag (that I should have bought) but I've only started thinking about it recently. If memory serves me right it's a cool bike. Just wondering.

Hey Scorcher, yeah, you did it right! Thanks! Isn't that a great lookin bike. And doesn't Travis have his act together. He could be riding anything but he isn't. I think he truely loves his SS! He's an awesome rider. I'd sure like to know the spec's on that bike. Anyone?

i was going to make a funny picture with a pirate and some witty text about stealing comments, but then i didn't know how to make text in GIMP. so you get this:

just imagine that with some witty phrase instead of the russian.

Only here can a conversation go from SS MTB's (or ATB's if you prefer) to old Russian pirates with steak knives betwixt their teeth in only two posts.

C'mon, that was just the beginning (I think the pirate looks like GWB...). This is where it gets fun.

It's a Trek OCLV frame with a Morati Ti fork...that's all I know about it.

that frame is not available to anyone other than travis brown. don't bother trying to find one if it's got your interest, your locak Trek dealer A) probably won't know anything about it, and B) won't be able to order one.

i've already tried talking to my trek rep at work, it won't/can't happen.

his drivetrain is just fine. look at the angle of the rear derailler cage. if his chain was derailled it'd be pointing back rather than down. sometime's it's just quicker to run

Nothin better than seeing that second image!! The single speeder blasting by the techno weenie bike that broke!

Though I do like to think that the geared bike is being left behind, there's not any way to tell. Post the same pic in the mtb forum, and they will be like "doesn't that idiot with the one gear know when to run? look at the geared bike blasting past him ON FOOT"

But then, if they look at closely, they will see his hanging chain(hopefully) and realize that geared bikes have more crap to break, and he is resorted to running the track!

I prefer to think the other guy is spent and forced to run and Travis is just kicking his butt! I may be wrong but that's what it looks like to me. Maybe someone from Trek will read this thread and at the next product meeting say "Lets build a Travis replica".
You never know. I don't really want one, I just think it's a cool bike and I'm impressed that Travis chooses to race it once in awhile.

guess what? travis brown also races with multiple gears. sometimes as many as 27 of them. i guess he's some sort of loser now, right? get off your high horse. just because you, or travis brown, or whoever chooses to ride a singlespeed doesn't make you any better than people who ride geared bikes.

Yeah, but what messenger bag does he use?

I'm just saying it's a cool bike and he's a kick ass rider. No matter what kind of bike he's riding. I've got a bunch of geared bikes myself. I just like bikes. I learned along time ago not to pigeon hole people.

probably got a brand spankin new chrome bag with the cell phone holster to try and fool people into thinking he's got a radio strapped to his shoulder. i also would be willing to bet he thinks PBR is the drink of the gods, that mainstream music sucks, that capitalism should be phased out in favor of a more cooperative or socialist way of life, and his dream bike is a fully NJS certified track bike that will, oddly enough, never be ridden on a velodrome.

so what? he rides what he wants to ride (or what the companies tell him to ride). it's a cool bike, and it's nice to see him winning. settle down there, mister flamey fingers...

You are reading what you want into the previous post. No one said the geared rider was a loser, but it is a fact that there are more things to go wrong on a geared bike, especially in the mud.

Actually, none of you are right. JHK (rider running) had to get (I believe) fifth place in the race to score the Series Championship (it was the last race of the series). With McGrath taking the win, Jeremy HAD to nail that place. Anyway, coming down into the last turn, he was side by side with McGrath's buddy Geoff "Kaboom" Kabush. Seeing as how Geoff is Seamus's buddy, their was no way he was just gonna let Jeremy take it. So, they smacked HARD and Jeremy wiped out on the very wet pavement. In the course of getting up, at least a couple more riders(including Travis) passed Jeremy, dropping him down to second. Still won the National Title, but lost the series. He was more upset about that, then hurt from the crash. My fiance was shooting the race, but she took the Durango gallery down or you could see the crash as it happened.

BTW, Travis's bike certainly kept him from dropping his chain, but even those who did didn't have to stop, they just eased up, got it back on and took off. TB is an avid single-speeder and goes on some of the better known end of season rides with it. OH, and he sure as heck used the normal geared bike during the XC the day before. ;)

There was an interview with TB in Velonews last month or the month before!

The bike is a custom OCLV with horiz. drop-outs.

And NO, you can't get one.

Thanks Racing Aardvark, that kind of clears up the whole mess. One of the beautiful things about mountain bike racing is anything can happen. I haven't been following the national (or any other) series for a couple of years. So I wasn't sure what was going on. All I was really looking for was a couple of pix of Travis's bike. I guess I got those and more! Ha! I was just curious about it. I'm pretty pleased with my pre-Surly 1x1 still. In fact I just got back from a ride on it. I'm on a 1x1 high right now. Thanks everybody.
