Hey bike community!
I'm new here so i wanted to see how this works. Basically i have the idea today of riding across the country to go see Barack take the white house on January 20.
I'm interested in any kind of info or suggestions anyone may have. Or if they want to join and ride with me that would be awesome!
Please respond with thoughts, ideas, etc.!

What route would you be taking? When would you leave? Have you done any touring before?

Crossing two mtn chains in Jan. You are ambitious. Congrats. Think I'd swing south of New Orleans and up thru Jacksonville.

Hello East Hill,
Until this last weekend I hadn't ever even dreamed of touring for a distance like this before. So my experience level is LOW. I am a daily city rider in Los Angeles, so i regularly ride 20-30 on any given day, and I'm 22 years old and a college athlete, so i believe i'm capable of the physical feat.
I'm thinking that the best route so far would be to keep to the south. But i'm still open for ideas and suggestions. Maybe you have suggestions on how to NOT to get frostbite and die in the mountains.. i'd really appreciate that! Or even if its possible to avoid the mountains all together!
Its starting to become a movement here in LA. I've been gaining support all this weekend and i'm really excited about it. Thanks for your help!

I think the ride from LA to Washington would be the easy part. The hard part would be at Washington, getting near enough to take part in or see anything. Going across the south would take you through all the red territory. Good luck.

I think that the touring forum folks can probably help you find your way over there, and they will be sure to have some good tips for getting in the best possible shape, too.
That's quite an adventure!
Good luck, and say hi to President Obama for me :D .

Thanks Andrew and East hill for getting back to me. Ya the "Red States" are going to be an interesting endeavor, but i'm going to be documenting the entire experience as well, so you get to participate in the fun here: www.bikeforbarack.blogspot.com
As for getting INTO the ceremony itself, i'm not so concerned with that part, i hear the tickets are going for $40k haha. But its still worth a shot, so i'll let you all know how the experience contacting the transition administration goes.
