Wow, we were on our way to the SART. It was windy but nothing out ot the norm, we ride int he wind, it's fun!. We get to the Leaky Faucet and notice it's friggin' smokey!...The smoke keeps getting thicker and the wind is blowing. I tell Gina, "Let's get the heckouttahere!".
On the way home we see the smoke to our right as we drive by Imperial on the 57 FWY. By the time we reach our hood, we can see the fires from a distance. Wasn't there on the way to the trail. Fire friggin' moves fast. Last report on TV says the Greenriver area has a mandatory evacuation order. Hope those cyclists that parked in that area are ok and able to get their vehicles and the heck out!

After getting back from an AM bike ride on the southern SART, I was mowing my backyard lawn @ 11AM and saw the smoke plume way up north. Smoke just arrived here near the OC coast (south end of SART) @2PM. The sunlight on my patio just dimmed to a yellow hue. No ash falling yet, but it reminds me of the fires/smoke in Oct/Nov 2003.

I'm coming down the 405 around 1PM today and a huge plume of smoke on my left hand side. Dang! I was going to go over Cannon and towards that area tomorrow morning too. Guess I'll go down towards Dana Point and PCH instead.

I rode GMR/GRR today, and the fires look very bad from up there. Didn't block the sun while I was up there, but by the time I got back to Whittier (1:30 approx) it was very yellow-dim indeed.
Hope everyone is okay, plus I hope they put it out soon.

This is really crazy, hope everyone is ok.
Anyone planning on riding through this ash? I hate not being able to ride and have no trainer/rollers, but I'm not going back out there. My lungs are hurting a little and I have a headache and I was only out for about 30 minutes.
Hi,
This is all very distressing. I rode with my club in the morning and heading north on PCH back into Long Beach you could clearly see the smoke rising from the Sylmar fire. I was home for about and hour and then I started smelling smoke. I think is was from the small PV fire. I was a bit frightening because as I was headed out of my neighborhood going to the velodrome there was a lot of smoke settling near the ground.
After my training session at the velodrome the sky was that kind of Armageddon brown. I stopped at Staples in Long Beach on my way home and when I came out about 20 minutes later my car was cover in ash.
No riding tomorrow if this keeps up. :(

It's reeking here in Anaheim near Brookhurst and LaPalma between the 5 and the 91. The yard is covered in ash. I was wearing my sunglasses while running errands in Garden Grove, Westminster, and Fountain Valley, but didn't bother once I got back up to Anaheim. Looks like sunset out there, the light is so orange from the smoke and ash. Think I'll head for SGRT tomorrow.
Some before/after views from Newport/Huntington Pier (around 3 PM). I hope this next week goes well for everyone, the heat is staying around for awhile.

the fire was pretty close to my place... I live up in weir canyon. Cops with they bullhorn rounding up the neighborhoods ordering a mandatory evacuation around 1:00PM... cops, firefighters, park rangers are all over the place and they did a very good job despite of the chaotic residents. I took few pics via phone. It felt like I was on a movie or something... very scary to be honest. We were stuck in traffic for a while going out of anaheim hills since everyone was trying to evacuate all at the same time. Visibility was terrible, ash fall, and etc. We're safe now and hoping to be back home soon...

Hmmm reminds me of the '03 and '07 fires here in SD... Hopefully this gets contained and stays that way...
Down here in HB, we saw the smoke and the sky turned orange for awhile at about 2:00, but there was never a hint of a smokey smell...lucky, for now.
I sure hope it stays that way.

Have friends that live in Yorba Linda. They evacuated. I had a Townhouse in Rancho Santa Margarita, I always worried about it. Sold it years ago, construction damage. Glad I'm in my main in Santa Fe Springs. I was gonna ride the SGRT today, but just took a leisurely ride on the new Whittier MUP. I hope all those in the fire areas stay safe.

Thank you, Mr. Beanz. I appreciate it.:)
I remember at one point I stopped taking pictures because the scene was depressing... I really do hope that these fires will get contained soon.
Kudos to the brave firefighters and other law enforcement agencies. Thanks a bunch!

Air quality is abysmal everywhere! No outdoor exercise for anyone asthmatic or with other breathing problems anytime soon...:( I'm wearing a dust mask to go out, bleh.
Hope everyone in the affected areas are ok. Keep safe!

I saw a couple of people wearing masks today. And a lot of ashfall, even as far away from the Anaheim Hills/Yorba Linda fire as the beach end of the LA River Trail!

At 8:30 pm Huntington Beach, can't smell smoke anymore. Does that mean its ok to ride here along PCH for Monday morning?

OMG, the fires are spreading to Diamond Bar. Holy **** that is too close for comfort to where I live.
