Greetings,
Well finally last night made a decision. I’ve been waiting two weeks for a Cannondale R600 to come in in my size to my lbs so I could compare it to a Trek 1500. Rode both last night and the Cannondale won out, I feel in love with the CAAD5 frame. Really shinned especially when I got out of the saddle and started hammering. A added plus, the R600 is supposed to come spec’d with a 105 rear derailleur and for some reason this bike has Dura-Ace. I ain’t asking any questions!
My wife got the red one and I got the blue and white one, we will be picking them up later this week, will post pictures when we get them.
Thanks for all the input.

Ok, I'll ask then. Dura-Ace for the same price as the 105? Is it only the rear der?
Enjoy the bike.

Yup, only the rear one. The bike is spec'd to come with 105 shifters, 105 rear and Tiagra front, my wifes bike that the lbs had in stock came that way. I was quite surprised to find Dura-Ace on the rear, but I take it!
My bike was ordered from Cannondale, I wonder if it has something to do with the 105 component shortage at Shimano that I've heard about? Think Shimano or Cannondale would have substituted it out at same price?

I just ordered a Trek 1200 (red, only option) for myself yesterday, and a Trek 5200 (blue) for my husband. We also have a Trek T2000 Tandem. The tandem is the only way we stay together on rides, and where we put on most of our miles, but we also enjoy our separate rides. This is my 1st bike in a few years. I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand a couple of months ago, so hoping my rides are not as painful now. Gave up my Specialized Allez due to the CT, so now anxious to get back on my own bike. Can't wait to get out & ride, if only it would warm up a little more!.

Nothing better then a new bike. My lbs was as surprised as I was about the Dura-Ace rear der. He said it just just came in the box the bike came in, guess they were honest, he could have switched it out with a 105 rear der.
His belief was like mine that it must have something to do with Shimano's shortage, probably worth it for Cannondale to ship with the Dura-Ace then endanger a sale.

I read that the shortages were in Dura-Ace and Ultegra. Not the lower stuff. A free upgrade is always good.

Most likely the shop was building 2 different bikes and a mechanic grabbed the wrong der. I wonder if there is some High zoot bike on their sales floor with a 105 rear der? :D

Did you ride other bikes to compare the to the Trek? I got a 2003 Cannondale R800 and am looking into changing (possibly to the Trek 2200).

She got the 1200 because she doesn't ride as much as he does (she was actually going to get a 1000, he said get the 1200). He got the 5200 because he rides almost every day when we aren't riding the tandem (even some days we do ride the tandem). Plus it's his 50th B-day later this year & he said he wanted it for his b-day. Why wait? I'd rather he enjoy the bike this summer, rather than get it in the late fall & have to look at it all winter & wishing he could ride (what torture that would be!). He's going to sell his Specialized Allez Sport to help offset the cost. i think we both got the bike that's right for us & our riding abilities and we have the Trek T2000 tandem to ride together (only way we stay together on a ride).

I rode bikes that were in my price range. I rode the Specailized Elite and the Specialized Roubaix <-spelling? The Canondale R800 was around 1,500 I believe.I wanted to max out at 1,400 w/new shoes and saddle.Out of the three I tried I liked the 2100 the best.It felt right on the test ride.

I just bought the Trek 2100 also. Got a great deal on it from my friend whose a mgr at a bike store. Paid $1,100.00. I didn't ride to many bikes so I can't compare it to others. My other choice was the Giant OCR elite but my friends store didnt sell GIANT's. The 2100 is really comfortable and stable. I love it. Plus it's made in the USA !!!

I got the 2200 (just more Ultegra than 2100). Great bike/frame. Rides like the wind.

Unless things have changes in the past few years, the bikes are shipped to the shops with the derailleurs on them already. Again, unless that's changed in, oh, about 6 years or so.

Was the DuraAce rear derailleur a 2003 model? Because 2004 is 10 speed... Awsome free upgrade, i'm waiting for my R2000 to be delivered, mabey a 2003 DuraAce deralleur will come with it, (haha not very likley) but I have heard of this in the past.

Feel kind of silly but I don't know if 10 or 9. I had the bike in the shop for a shorter stem and saw two R600's, on with 105 rear der and one with a Ultegra so who knows. I'll check when I get home and let you know, eitherway, I'm happy. Love the bike as well, very fast.

It's a 9 so it looks to be 2003.

Yeah the bikes are like 70% prebuilt when they arrive.

Bikes are shipped as a bare frame with a seperate box of components.

When did that start? (I'm probably sounding like a freakin' idiot, but I remember vividly building up 6 different brands of off the shelf bikes and it only involving putting on the front and and adjusting everything.) What bikes do you work with that are shipped with everything packaged separately?

Wow really? Well i guess then all the GT, Raleigh, Schwinn, Specialized, Cannondale, Trek, Giant, Iron Horse, Hoffman, and Diamondback bikes I have put to gether new out of the box over the past 8 years have been boxed wrong.
