Here's an mish-mash of stuff from Saturday's race. This one is sort of a look at the course over a number laps, not really chronological. All of the helmet cam is first lap, when I was still moving at a "respectable" pace. Still pgotos are from the Cat. 3 race

I need to tweak the helmet cam next time. I realized last night I had it mounted it further forward yesterday than I did when testing it, thus you see more handlebar than I would like. Oh well, all part of the learning process. Not sure what that course taught me, something I suppose. Probably that CX can be really hard!

Click on "Watch in high quality" on the bottom right of the video box for a much better picture (and keep an eye out for a few other BF Great Lakes users in here):

That video is awesome! The first footage of you climbing "the hill" shows just how nasty that thing was. The end was great, "Are you puking?"

I just watched again. That run-up is going to give me nightmares.

What do you say at the end? Almost sounds like, "That was worse than Alpe d'Huez".

Close, "Worse than Alpe Bl'Huez."
It's a TT at Blue Mounds State Park (Wisc). I dry heaved there back in 2007 on the climb on Park Road (last 3 miles are all uphill) and watched my wife go past me (But I re-passed her when she dropped a chain). Did much better this year.

Glad the Zep went over well.

Cool ! Yup, I gotta wire Recursive for some video.

My Whitewater tape in a bit.

Sweet. I don't know about that camera placement though. It looks so non-aero. I favor a stem-based mount.

I saw one on YouTube from Europe where the cam was on his seat tube (or similar). Very unique angle and it didn't swerve back and forth so much.

The system I'm using (GoPro) has an adaptor set for stem and bar placement. Works pretty slick. I shot some vid using different placements two weeks ago. I think for road racing I'll probably use the stem back mount the most as you'll the faces of riders drafting. Mush more interesting that a bunch of backs and butts, IMHO.

I do not like the "stem forward shot" sorta creeps me out. I also need to play with a few of the clamps this winter to see if I can get them to fit some of the bigger diameter tubes/bars on my roadbike.

Very interesting.

Stem forward is what they use on these: http://realrides.tv/

I think it really works. Check out the sample videos. IMHO, during a road race, that's the best tactical view of the situation.

Of course, if that's not the goal, it doesn't apply. Like, for example, if you want to capture some pansy human interest crap with like people's emotions and faces, ;) it wouldn't work so well. I certainly think you could get interesting video from just about any angle. It just depends what you want to see. I would feel like looking backward in a race, you'd never really know what was happening.

i didn't know there were so many people there. so who were the other suckers (i only recognize psimet)? did you flatlanders get enough of that hill? i must have gone up it 10 times... i raced the 3s, in a red jersey/red helmet/black tights on a way overgeared ss.
