There is a pretty good commuting article in the latest Dirt Rag. I don’t know if they will post it online. I’ll keep my eye out and publish the link if they do.
In the article they author talks about forgetting to bring things to work and going to meetings in a suit and tennis shoes. Now I’m not usually a smug guy but I remember thinking something like “I don’t forget things like that” and “I’ve got a good system”. Of course today I have a great ride in and make record time all on my new SS road bike. Cool! As I lock up my bike I notice that the head set is loose again and remember that I didn’t bring the wrench for it. Hmmm? I get to my desk and hey, where are my glasses? I guess I’ll go down to the cafeteria and get some breakfast. Wait, where’s my wallet? Nice.

Your humble commuter,
CD

Yep.

I forgotten my towel on several occasions and had to use my jersey to 'dry' off after my shower. Undies are another favourite forgotten item. Wallet? Yep. Keys? Them too. I'm waiting for the day that I forget to bring a shirt and have to spend the day in my stinky jersey.

I once forgot my pants but luckily my wife works in the same building and could bring me a pair while I remained sitting behind my desk in my Pearl Izumis.

I had a major scare one day last month. I thought for a brief moment that I'd actually forgotten my trousers (I sat them on my pannier, which is also black, and didn't see them at first). Needless to say, they've been the first thing packed every day since.

I also remember leaving my towel behind in the early stages of my last tour. Three weeks of drying off with my jersey after a shower.

I forgot my wallet along with every form of ID I had.

Had to hand over the keys to my kryptonite to the guard plus reason that I'm the only one who commutes to school on a bike so I'll be easily recognizable. Then I had to spot cash from friends for lunch. Same day I bought my roadie heh.

Thank god at work I'm the only one in the back of the lab anyway so no one'll notice if I'm not in my regular clothes.

The exact reason I keep a lock and key for at work.

More than once I've gone quite far before realising I forgot my helmet ,usualy 1/2 way down the 1st hill so I have to turn round & ride up it to get it

I leave my helmet latched onto the bike along with my gloves and sunglasses in there.

I actually enjoy forgetting my keys, that means I get to keep my bike in my cube! (nevertheless I keep my bike keychain in my seatbag when the bike is not locked so it doesn't happen often).

I brought a pair of my wife's pants one day by mistake. Luckily they were not feminine enough for anyone to notice (still spent a lot of time behind the desk anyway).

I keep a spare pair of clothes in my desk now just in case.

Yeah, I accidently brought one of my daughters blouses thinking it was my white shirt... man, was it tight and frilly, it made for a long day.

It is only because of this forum that I haven't forgotten anything, well other than a wrench, a tube, the seat bag. You guys taught me well. I have a corner of the boiler room where I can hang my sweaty stuff, a file drawer for my clothing, and towel. And everyweek I take a set home for washing, I have 4 sets at work, so they don't all get worn everyday. But they do have washing machines at work, so I'm not so sure hauling stuff home is all that important either.

Now all I have to do is talk them into putting in a staff shower. Several co-workers have stated they'd commute if there was a shower. How can I put that into a request from Corporate? Like push the benefits of a healthy staff because of the exersize? I'll have to ruminate on this a little.

After forgetting a shirt on Tuesday (borrowed one from a friend who lives close by), my new policy is to always have a full wearable set of clothes at work. No matter how dirty they are, they're not coming home unless I've got something to replace them with. Yesterday forgot underwear, but due to the new policy it wasn't a big deal.

That's why I have a list of things printed up at home so that I do not forget anything

What was the old policy?

My landlord makes me stash a spare set of keys in the backyard I am always leaving them on my desk. I keep a set of glasses at work for those days I forget mine. What I hate is when I take them home with me and forget them there. The wallet only once and I left it at work on my desk on a friday night :( thats a bad thing living without ones wallet for a weekend

What was the old policy?

Basically "wing it". What I was doing was on each day bring either a shirt or pants, which I then wear for 2 days. In the evening I take what I've worn 2 days home. This means there's no room for me forgetting what I'm supposed to bring today.
