Commuting - Finally...First commute of the season

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I finally was able to start commuting by bike this morning. This is my first day of commuting this season, and it was a great ride in. I remembered why I enjoy getting to work this way. It was about 30 degrees this morning, and crystal clear. The air felt great, and when I got to work I felt great. I am looking forward to the ride home.

I was riding a new hand me down/bad roads bike and the gearing is a a little tall, but it was still a great ride. I am looking forward to the rest of the season, and I plan on saving up for some studded tires to extend the commute later into the winter. I may also explore an off road commute to work that I found last summer once the ice clears from the trails. Now if I can stop thinking about my ride home, I may get some work done.

Happy Commuting.

I had a great ride home. The sun was setting, and it was absolutely beautiful outside.

I also discovered an added bonus to my bike commute. My bike commute is actually a little quicker than commuting by car. We moved our lab to a new building over the winter, so this bike commute route is new to me. I think I make up the time by being able to park my bike right outside the entrance to my building, while the walk from the parking lot to my lab is quite far. Whatever the reason, it was nice to spend the extra ten minutes with my son last night.

Does anyone else have a faster commute by bike than they do by car?

Maybe this should be the subject of a separate post.

Edit: I have created a separate post.
