so, i had a little run in w/ a pedestrian yesterday and my schwinn frame got a little bent up. the fork is slightly out of line and the bike pulls to the left a little. not enough to make it very hard to ride, but enough to make riding no hands impossible. so, i'd like to get a new (to me) frame. i ride fixed gear so horizontal dropouts are a must, and would really like to get some elegant older italian road frame. definitely steel. i would like something higher quality than the schwinn, but only want to spend about 150 max. does anyone have any suggestions? also suggestions on where to find such frames would be helpful. i know ebay, but is there anywhere else? most LBS's seem to specialize in new stuff or if used, complete bikes. thanks in advance.

check out your local shops while they might not be selling stuff the actual workers will probably have a clue of where to find stuff. some thrift shops might have stuff...I know most major cities will have at least one shop that specializes in older stuff (come to Boston we have a bunch)...and there is always the dumpster

Here's a couple of resources...

Sellwood Cycle Repair in Portland sells frames online. They have a rapid turnover so check them frequently. http://www.sellwoodcycle.com

Also, not sure where you live, but you might try Craig's List. They have lots of bikes and other stuff for sale. You can also post a wanted ad. http://www.craigslist.org

Check this place out: http://www.velomech.ch/

I was going to get a frame from this guy but ended up with something else. I still may get one though. He said 150 USD shipped to my door...

These are good for a starters:

Classic rendezvous classifieds (http://www.classicrendezvous.com/forsale.htm)
Campy Only classifieds (http://www.campyonly.com/classifieds/forsale.html) recycled cycles (http://www.recycledcycles.net/index.html)

E-bay is still going to be one of your best bets, along with the others mentioned above.

Some very good looking frames there but who makes them and what do they cost? Website is a bit confusing - anybody ever buy from there?

I just visited that site and it looks like they will have an inventory up shortly as it says. I emailed months ago and he said it would be $150.00. The frame I was interested in was a Columbus Thron frame made by Technotrat Italy. I never heard of them but I figured a steel lugged Columbus frame with a nice paint job was worth 150 bucks?
