Road Cycling - Daylight time!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Am I the only one doing that....
This week, when I come home, I count an hour and look outside... Then I get crazy knowing that it will still be possible to ride starting next week!!!!
Daylight time! Ya!

Oh ya I am very much so looking forward to it. Why do they do that stupid s--t in the first place. I lived in Indiana for a few years and they are smart enough to know that changing the clocks is stupid.
I'm glad they do it. Otherwise it would be dark by 6:30 for another month. Then it would only be light until 8 in the heart of summer. Of course, for you early risers, you'll need a headlight to get started now. But I'm not a morning person...

It saves energy, or so I was told.

Why not just stay on DST all year round?

Good question! OR better yet, arrange the work day around our riding schedules :D

I hate it. No more leaving at 5:45-6am on the weekends.
I think it's great the way it is....I absolutely LOVE the feeling of anticipating the arrival of DST. Those long late days in the summer are AWESOME. As for DST year round...I seem to recall that they did it in '72 or so with the early OPEC oil crisis--on the theory that we'd burn less energy in an hour of morning darkness, than in an hour of evening darkness--not sure how that went. As for now, I can't imagine putting our kids on the bus and arriving at work in the pitch dark at 7:30 or 8:00 a.m.

I'm looking forward to it here, too. I bike commute at least 3 days a week, so it means I'll be more likely to take the longer way home with the added daylight. Also makes it more feasible to go for an afternoon ride on the days I don't commute.

uhm....didn't it start so farmers could have more sunlight to plow their fields?

I've heard that one too but if you get up at first lite and finish work at the last lite then who needs a clock even?
That's what I was thinking jfmckenna. I had heard the thing about farmers too, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. There is the same amount of daylight no matter what the clock says.

How do you like you Marseille?

I love it. I don't have much experience on a road bike, but I've been very pleased with it. The frame is nice and stable and I've had no problems to speak of. I switched out the cassette to a 12-27 at least for early in the season, but other than that, I've been pretty happy with the stock setup. Oh, and I put on a SRAM chain.
Absolutely happy with it and I still love just looking at it when I walk past the room I keep it in. It's beautiful.
