or X2s for that matter.
Anyone out there updgrade from X3s to either X2s or X1s? Any differences you can tell? I'm 175 so I think I can safely ride the X1s. Are they worth the extra moola? I really love my X3s but would upgrade if someone could convince me its worth the cost.

I believe the only difference between the X1-2-3 is material and weight
here is what they say on the Speedplay website:
X/3 CroMo pedals per pair - 220g
X/2 Stainless pedals per pair - 198g
X/1 Titanium pedals per pair - 150g
X cleats per pair - 85g
the 3 pedals even use the same cleats...
so, if the 70 grams are that important to you, sure, go ahead and spend the extra money..
or X2s for that matter.

I had a set of the X1's, and on two other bikes I use the X2's. Save your money and get the X2's. (I certainly couldn't tell any difference between the performance of the two...)
I think the X3 are not US made and have different bearings. The Speedplay site will give you the specs.

OK, so does anyone think there is a performance difference btw the X3s and the X2s/X1s?
Sounds like its weight (which comes from lighter, more exotic, more expensive materials), which I knew to be the case.

Aside from weight differences, this is what Speedplay says ...
"X/3 incorporates an earlier release angle than the race-oriented X/1 and X/2. The X/3 needs only a slight heel twist to exit, so you'll have no worries about getting out when you need to. "

The X3's are pieces of ****, the bearings are crap and they are junk.

Ok DJBowen1, tell us what you REALLY think!
Speedplay lit. indicates that inside bearing on X-3s are bushings vs. bearings on X-1&2s. I have X-2s and have re-greased one time (@2,500mi) and they work great.
FYI there are a lot of differences between the X5s and the X2/X1, I'm not sure how many of these apply to the X3?
X/5 requires less heel twist to disengage its release mechanism.
X/5 uses a cro-moly steel spindle instead of stainless steel (X/2) or titanium (X/1)
X/5 uses one cartridge bearing and one needle bearing; X/1 and X/2 use two cartridge bearings and one needle bearing.
X/5's spindle is 2 millimeters longer than other X Series spindles.
X/5 is imported.
So it looks like the Q factor is wider then than with the other pedals? That'll get a bad rap. =)
On the subject of X1, I notice they have a rider weight limit. I'm under the weight limit, but will the X1 snap if overstressed? Or will it just bend? I haven't heard any stories of X1s destructing, but got a *great* deal on a pair. I might just trade them for X2s plus some cash for peace of mind.
I actually like the q factor on the X5 better (gasp). This is due to me needing the pedals a little farther out. I want to go X-2 because I hate the look of the black spindle on the al polished da cranks... now if that was my only concern
I could never get away with X1 Ti pedals...

Go with the X2s. The float is great and the stainless steel looks like it will last forever. If you lend your bike to a heavy friend to try out, you won't have to worry about your pedals getting twisted. Plus, 50 grams savings for the X1 is less than 2 ounces.
