Southern California - Bad air quality

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
With the air quality this bad, are you guys planning on riding today or later this week? I have a headache right now just living, I can't imagine what it would be like if I was doing some interval workouts outside.
It seems like nothing is spared in the Orange County area according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District: http://www.aqmd.gov/Default.htm
Maybe I'll run around in the gym for a while.

I rode to work yesterday and on my way home at night I saw all the floating ashes that I was inhaling in front of my light. My wife did tell me not to ride my bike to work that morning. I should have listened to her for once....:D

i rode a quick 30 yesterday and the air wasn't too bad, my eyes were really dry though.
Unfortunately had to work on Saturday when the air quality wasn't that bad (near La Brea and the 10 freeway). Then Sunday when I wanted to ride I didn't because it was snowing ash!

Nothing here in Irvine. Nice and clear. But last year and the year before, I remember AFTER the fires, I rode like a week later. I was coughing a gagging by the time I got home. I didn't know it, but someone said that the ash is on the ground and probably accumlated near the curbs and where the bike lanes are. So any car or bike that comes by, will blow those little tiny particles in your lungs. My lungs were burning.
Just stay home for a week or so. Better to play it safe than get really really sick. Who knows what toxins are in those ashes.
AQ is really bad. Just about everybody I've seen, including myself, had bandanas over their faces to keep the soot out of their lungs. Talked to a few and they were doing short runs, less than 5 miles...more for a grocery run than commuting or riding somewhere for some set distance.

Today in Torrance (monday) it seems better than yesterday but still bad enough that I wont ride. I am hoping maybe tomorrow it will clear enough to be safe. I hate this smoke !!!

rode for 3.5 hours through the Santa Monica Mts today - the air felt fine though it was in the 90s. From the ridgelines the view east was nasty - looks like a slight onshore wind has pushed dirty air into east valley.

Yeah, went a couple hours no problems, but had slightly wheezy breathing for a bit afterwards.

Welcome to my world. Spend a month in the IE and you will become immune to it :)

Tuesday morning 18th Nov. Around 6 am in Huntington Beach, I went outside to sniff the air for smoke. Still there but much less. Went for my mandatory half mile walk. Decided not to risk it and didn't ride.
Took a short ride last night (~10 pm) and you could smell the wood burning like smoke everywhere.

Wednesday morning in Huntington Beach was cooler and some fog around Brookhurst and PCH. No smell of smoke.
