Well, I read about it on Sheldon's site and tonight I experienced it first-hand.

Hit a bump and my rear wheel got whacked out-of-line, chain came flying off for a few seconds and then quickly wrapped itself around my rear cog/hub. I was going about 20-25 mph and skidded to a stop in about 10 seconds.

Could have been worse since I wasn't in traffic and not going downhill -- glad to have a front brake, though.

If you haven't read the info on Sheldon's site check it out -- I did last week and now I'm glad I did.

similar thing happened to me after like 3 weeks of riding fixed. except I was in traffic and I was going downhill. Bent a few chain links and skidded through my tire. It ended up costing me a few bills.

My chain seems to be totally unaffected, but the wheel is completely out of whack -- from looking at it I think maybe the wheel came out of whack first and as a result the chain flew off. It's possible I bent something or something gave out but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get a closer look at it -- funny thing, too -- I'm just waiting for the local shop to finish up my Soma Rush build so hopefully they'll be done sooner than later.

It's a bummer that you ruined a wheel just because you didn't tighten your tracknuts enough. You should be more careful with your new Soma.

Well, if it was the tracknuts, they came loose over the past couple of weeks as they were just tightened. Thanks, though, for nothing.

the "lowtech"?

I would think one would place both at the same technical level. Both just stamped/bent metal. Now if you put a flat screen monitor on your chain tensioner... Pimp My Ride, bike edition?
