Foo - Last time you bought flowers?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
When was the last time you bought flowers? I got some today, last time was probably several months ago, and no a) did not do something stupid and no b) am not angling for a cooler holiday gift.
The boys and I get them for mommy/the wife pretty frequently. If we wait too long, she gets them herself.
You got a preference for a specific type or what type of assortment do you like?
For my Mom's birthday this past Summer, and my grandmother's funeral this past weekend. Oh and I occasionally buy flowers for myself as I like them :) ---- ever see a camelbak with some flowers hanging out of the top of it? :D

Grow them myself. Cut some fresh roses for the dinner table just the other day.
I'm sure I wont be doing that again for a few months....tonight's supposed to be mid to low 20's.

Nope, but I bet they looked cool. Mine are in a Lexan waterbottle until I get them home. I like them during winter.

My wife's birthday was yesterday, as is my answer to the post.
I used to do it when the missus got home from work first.
But that's been awhile. She's never gotten me flowers.

Whatever the grocery store floral dept has on sale. She likes gladiolas, so I get them when they have them. Usually I set a budget and let one of the boys choose, those times can be interesting.
There is a rose vendor kiosk by the elevators in her office, that is under $20 for a dozen roses. We hit that place up on a pretty regular basis.
Having studied horticulture in college and taking some floral design courses, I have a good eye for flowers and make alot of our arrangements at home.

It was the poison ivy that surprised him, not the flowers.:innocent:

I like irises, myself. Floral design, you do ikebana?
Once a week.
Last March, the road between my house and office was closed for construction. I had to detour into town and, on Thursday, discovered a street fair. I walked through it and bought some flowers.
My wife had a pinched nerve in her back for a little over a year. On the day I came home with the flowers, she had had a particularly painful day and was crying when I rode up. The flowers lifted her spirits.
The road was reopened in Septembe done but I still go into town and get a bouquet every Thursday.
I do do Ikebana, studied at the M. Buddy Benz School.

Last time was probably a couple of years ago when I bought some yellow roses for my grandmother's birthday. Last time before that was for a friend (female) in probably 1998.

I use to buy them about once a week for the wife. Now she prefers Starbucks gift cards. I usually try to get the card with flowers on it. Does that count?

yeah? no kidding. that's cool, always wanted to learn it and bonsai.
It is very cool and the same principles of shin, so and tai translate well to all forms of design. I do not remember all the terms but I liked the forms that mimiced nature after a storm, with broken stems, etc.
I think working with a few basic elements is funner and more challenging that working with masses of flowerers.
I also enjoyed the more contemporary forms of design, where the shape and colors of the materials can be altered by cutting, painting, etc.
I wish I had the foresight to take pictures of some of my work from my college days.

about 3 weeks ago - pretty good deal, the "Flower Guy" comes to our office and sells roses for a decent price. Pretty spur of the moment though. I don't do anything consistently, except sleep on the couch. [yes ladies, I'm that much of a catch]

The last time I remember buying flowers was when my college roommate's appendix burst or something, and she spent several days in the hospital.
Come to think of it, she actually spent quite a lot of time in the hospital that year.

Grow them myself.
I use the homegrown gardenia incense myself. Much better than Glade.

It's been a few years since I bought flowers for anyone other than my mother, but I plan on sending some to an old girlfriend of mine on her birthday. It's been almost 20 years since we've seen each other, so I'm sure it'll come as a surprise.
I really like to send Fire and Ice Roses, but they don't last that long.

Every time I go to the grocery store I buy flowers for my mother. If I'm dating someone, then I buy two bunches of flowers.

does anyone here know of a good florist in Boston?
If I bought flowers for one girl, they'd all get jealous and I'd have to buy them all flowers.

Never. Who needs to buy em when I can go pick some.
Hmmm...first the flour, then the flowers...I'm sensing a crime wave pattern here.
Why buy what grows right in the backyard?
Oh, yeah.... i forgot people have yards. Forget what I said about crime waves.
I'm going to bed now............I am losing one brain cell per second tonight. And I'm not even drinking

...her... was having a rough day, so I bought flowers and had them shipped to her. That, of course, was when we were still dating, so maybe a year ago?

I forgot one: About 3 years ago I had some flowers sent to a girl I know in Chicago. It was her birthday.
Awesome, almost missed the bus last night, driver saw me holding the bouquet, grinned, and waited for me. *thumbs up* Go flowers!
