Fifty Plus (50+) - Of bikes and other things

Reading through the "Hung bike thread" it appears many of us tend
to collect bikes. I know I do, but then I'm somewhat of a collector
by nature. Over the years I've managed to amass a few modest collections.
Toy Trains, Hess Trucks, Winross and Penjoy 1/64 scale diecast trucks.

Any other collectors out there?

Bicycles, acoustic guitars, pocket knives, and hand grinders for coffee.

I collect inkwells and writing instruments. I also have a fairly extensive library.

I'm down to three bikes for me and one for Mrs. Mono. I'm an N-1 person when I can be.

Wysoki and Kinkade plates....only their houses. Unfortunately this collection has been packed away in the attic since I moved here in 2000. I think it's time to get it out and hang some of them.

The bikes share garage space with another collection - sewing equipment and a large "fabric stash":)

They are salt and pepper shakers made in Japan sometime after WWII and into the 50's. They usually have the same style base and the figurines vary from different birds, people, animals and even boats. Many have localized stickers indicating they were sold in tourist destinations and rest stops. My wife and I used to go to a lot of antique stores and flea markets to look for treasures for her collections. For some reason I took to collecting Nodder Salt and Pepper shakers and started to purchase my collection over time. I have 30+ sets in my collection. The funny thing is that my wife doesn't allow any place at home for me to display them and the entire, neatly wrapped set, fits nicely into a copy paper box in the attic.:love:

No collecting here. If I have more than one of something, it's because I need (or want) it and use it. Occasionally, I hang on to something I don't need just for sentimental reasons. Sometimes, things just accumulate without being formally collected and categorized.

In addition to bikes I collect "HO" slot cars (approx. 1/64th scale). Just got back from a 24 Hour Le Mans HO slot car race in the U.K. So in addition to bikes, small scale slot cars are easy to collect, and still fun to race!

I don't have any major collections, but I do tend to accumulate small to moderate collections of things that interest me. So I have about 10 binoculars and 5 telescopes and a modest baseball memorabilia collection of about 50-60 collectible baseball cards and about 20 signed or MLB-used bats, balls, and gloves. Oh, and about a dozen pieces of mid-to-high level audiophile gear - like 3 preamps (two with tubes) and 5 amps (also two with tubes). But nothing like having large complete or extensive sets of anything. I haven't added to any of the above collections in the past 3-4 years.

My wife says I collect remote controls, but that's just a by-product of all of the audio and video gear, all of which came with their own single-purpose remotes and I haven't lost any of them.

The only thing I collect is firewood.

Back in the day I ran a 1/32 slot car (a Super Modfied Racer type plastic body, Revell motor rewound and balanced, maguilar frame, rack and pinion drive with independent front wheels) that was the terror of West Texas., i.e, Lubbock and Midland/Odessa.

I kept an HO track of about 4x16' until about 7 years ago when the kids more or less got bored with it as they got full size cars.

The only thing I collect is firewood.

No, the hours are full scale. The race starts on Sat. at 1:00 PM and ends Sunday at 2:00 PM (the extra hour is eaten up by lane change time).

It's an eight lane track. 220 feet long, Le Mans (1973) replica, assembled on the floor of the basketball court in the Rolls-Royce Aero Engines Sports Hall, Victory Road, Derby, Derbyshire, U.K.

The race has been run since '92, and our team (Team USA) has won it six times. We have raced English, French and Chinese teams, with other drivers from Austria, Wales, Holland, Finland and Australia in years past. Team USA won the race in 2005, 2006 and 2007 . . . finished 3rd in 2008.

The controllers are all Parma or dirivatives so they're index finger (not thumb) driven.

The driver's platform is on the far right. The part of the circuit you're seeing here (if you know the Le Mans track) is the Ford Chicane, the twisty bit in the foreground, then a straight back to the Porsche Curves. The red blur on the straight bit is a car going past.

In the far left background (under the bloke in the white shirt sitting on a chair) is the Mulsanne Corner. The first part of the Dunlop corner is in the extreme foreground.

I would not call it a collection but I have accumulated several +1 miniature Christmas crib scenes. I need to get them alll together some day to see zactly what I have. since It is about that time .......maybe.
