Commuting - Oh what a morning...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

No heat / hot water on the coldest night of the year, baby wakes up right before I leave needing soothing, taxi pulls over for fare and nearly takes me out ("I keel you!!!" was his reply after being cursed out), stooopid wrong-way cyclist nearly takes me out as I come around a corner and then, to add insult to it all, when picking-up some breakfast I slipped on my cleats and fell on my arse. Yes, I know myspace is thataway but you know what the best part of this morning is? I'm still smiling b/c I got to ride my bike to work (and made it in one piece!). :D

To adapt a quote from a separate community, "a good commute is when you get to work and can still walk and chew solid food. A great one is when you and your bike can make the return trip."
Looks like you meet the above criteria, but not for lack of trying. ;)
Sounds like my morning. Overslept, then grabbed the road bike but forgot to grab the headlight mount off the MTB. Oh well, had the headlight, figured I'd just strap it to my helmet on the way home. Get 3/4 of the way to my office and realize that I have my UnderArmor beanie and my earmuff's on... but duh... didn't wear my helmet. Now I gotta figure out where to strap the headlamp on for the ride home.
Is it Monday?? :-P
But it was a great ride in.

I hit a pumpkin on the ride home one morning at ~30 mph (down a big hill obviously); so any commute that doesn't require me to eat yogurt for six months is a successful one.

Could this be a reference to the road rage taxi driver that keeps getting robbed?

No cookie for you. :( Hint: direct quote from a pop song (did I just admit that? :D).
Nobody wants your cookie. BF gives us plenty of cookies every time we visit. If you were offering pie I would take time to google the lyrics.

I've got it -- from "Oklahoma", by Rogers and Hammerstein:
Oh, what a beautiful mornin',
Oh, what a beautiful day.
I got a beautiful feelin'
Ev'rything's goin' my way.
All the cattle are standin' like statues,
All the cattle are standin' like statues,
They don't turn their heads as they see me ride by,
But a little brown mav'rick is winkin' her eye.
etc. etc.
... that is the song you meant, isn't it?
;)

Care to share? Sounds like a hell of a story.

Yes and no. When I eventually put a positive spin on the day, that's what I had in mind. However, my first thought was of Ace of Base, b/c I'd felt like I'd been screwed. If you know the song, you know what I mean. :D
When she woke up late in the morning
Light and the day had just begun
She opened up her eyes and thought
O what a morning
Its not a day for work
Its a day for catching tan
Just laying on the beach and having fun
Shes going to get you

Damn, I was gonna say 'The Coldest Night of the Year' by Bruce Cockburn.
I was up all night, socializing
Trying to keep the latent depression from crystalizing
Now the sun is lurking just behind the Scarborough horizon
And you're not even here
On the coldest night of the year.
I took in Yonge Street at a glance
Heard the punkers playing
Watched the bikers dance
Everybody wishing they could go to the south of France
And you're not even here
On the coldest night of the year.
Hey look at me now
See the shape I'm in
It's taken me so long to catch on to what's going on
Inside this skin
When two lovers really love there's nothing there
But this suddenly compact universe
Skin and breath and hair
I watched the all night TV show
In the all night bar
I drove all the people home
I was the one with the car

Pop song? Try classic rock Oldie Hawn.

"What a rush ..."
Could be taken two ways. As me mum used to say: "More haste, less speed."

Oh what a night. Late december back in '63. What a very special time for me, what a lady what a night.....
That was my first thought. Nothing to do with the topic, but my first thought nonetheless.
That does sound like one hell of a rough commute though.
