Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Stripped Headset part replacement disaster! HELP!

A month or so ago I posted a topic about how I'd stripped the lock nut on my headset and possibly the threads on my steering tube while trying to overhaul my headset. When I took my bike to the shop to get it looked at i was told that the fork was fine. A employee offered the option of a chris king threaded headset for $70 (under the table) and I took it. Since the installment I've been back to the shop atleast five times trying to get the damn thing to stay tightened. It usually becomes loose on its own after a day or two of riding. Any ideas as to what is causing this could it be the threading on the insider of my head tube? I just talked to the employee he said we were going to have to "figure out a plan of action." ****ing idiot ARGGGGGGGGGG please helpppp meee.

Assuming the threads on the King he sold you are intact, then the common factor is the fork itself. You should be able to tell, by eye, if they are messed up. In my experience, fork threads are far more robust than headset threads, so maybe you just have run into two bum headsets however.

Can you add or subtract spacers to bring the locknut to a new thread area?

Are you sure the headsets (esp the King) were properly tightened down?

Before sanding the head tube down he tried adding a spacer neither methods worked. :(

maybe you should put some lock-tite on the threads. for some reason, some shops refuse to do this- and because of this my newly re-hauled headset will not stay tight.

The lock not does not line up with the rest of the head set I've noticed. I wish i knew what the **** was happening. :(

I think I just noticed that something fishy is going on. Either the KING KOG emblem on the cups wore off or he replaced them with other silver cups... could this affect the head sets performance?

Umm... KING KOG? or Chris King?

Check with another shop. Sounds sketchy. The wholesale price on a CK is like $100.

1) You don't need "lock-tite" (sic). Headsets without ther proper amount of spacers and/or incorrect torque between the top nut and the upper threaded race will become loose

The upper cup does not rotate, ever unless the headtube is damaged and the press fit is non-existent.

That has nothing to do with proper threaded headset adjustment.

1) Check that you have enough spacers and the top nut is not bottoming out on the top of the steerer.

If your LBS is unable to keep a threaded headset properly adjusted then you should find a new one.

Went back to my lbs today the tech said that the compressor or whatever its called is too short. So apparently they're going to order me a new one of the same type? this time it was a different employee and he told me " not too worry about it, that it'd get taken care off and to stop by after thanksgiving..." This is.. however my fault. I guess you live you learn.

Don't tell you I told you this, but most bike co-ops are QBP members. And I doubt any volunteers are getting fired.
