Electric Bikes - Electric Tricycle

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My dad and I are interested in potentially starting a three wheeled electric vehicle project. We were thinking about using two hub motors, and working out the specifics in the future. If anybody has an electric trike or has any thoughts on a good setup, please share anything you know with me. Thanks.
Hope,
Try PMing Sianelle (Sister Anne) (http://www.bikeforums.net/member.php?u=95370), she has a powered trike.

I have been working on a prototype trike for more than a year now. I am using a Crystalyte 404 front hub motor with a 16" rim running on 72volts. I have done 30mph on the flats and can cruise at 20mph drawing just under 750watts, short steep hills are no problem, all up weight is over 300lbs. http://bricycles.com (http://bricycles.com/)

Is that thing really as loud as a car?

No. I wish the lens and shutter on our camera were as sensitive as the microphone.

I was hoping the video would have lasted a bit longer as there seems to be a car coming by.

Using a delta is the way I would go/went. Went with a WE hub, then a C'lyte X5 on 26" rims all around on my EZ3. !Hijack! I do like the way that body looks! Coroplast? Fiberglass? Carbon? Kevlar? Gonna close the tail, or leave it open? 300# with you, or just trike? Mine, with solar and panels and me is 390#, which is why I dropped the WE 400 w motor. End hijack!
Back to thread. I have a friend that put a Cyclone motor on his Catrike Speed, took it off because "it (the batts) weighed too much", so when you start of with power assist, budget initially for NiMh or LiFePO4 batts, that way, you will have a lighter setup from the gitgo, and won't have to deal with disposing of the sla's

My trike is a full monocoque made of 1/8" marine plywood with a lite fiberglass skin. Weight is about 360lbs with me. Open tail.
The thread. You could start with a Sun EZ3, about $800.00, I have one. Add a Crystalyte 400 series motor with a 16" rim, run on 32volts, for about $680.00, motor, controller and SLA's. For about $1500.00 you would have a delta that peddles well, will easily reach 20mph with the motor. I would rework the steering though, I don't like the long handlebars. You'll have to lean in the turns.
