I just installed a new Edge 705 (from Geomangear) and went for my first ride with it tonight. I'm having an issue with autopause.
When I stand up to pedal over little rollers or up a longer hill, the unit goes into a quick succession of autopause/resume sequences, about 5 seconds apart. I don't know if when I stand I'm blocking the satellite (seems unlikely), or the side-to-side motion does it, or the very slight uphill, or even the flex from the crank. Any ideas?
I've tried it with Autopause-when-stopped, and Auto-pause-custom time of 3 seconds. No difference.
I see some other posts relating it to the cadence sensor or the spoke-magnet. I hate to start pulling those things off if that's not it.
I'm using the latest 2.5 version of the software.
On my edge 705 you can set the auto timer pause to start when you fall below a "custom speed"
Maybe you have this function set to on, I think the default speed is 4.8kmh.
The path is menu/training/autopause-lap/autotimerpause/customspeed

The 705 uses the speed/cadence sensor for speed readings. I would check a few things. Since only happens when you are ouf of the saddle I am guessing the cause is the magnet on the wheel not being close enough to the sensor. The other thing to check is the battery in the sensor, they have been known to arrive dead. It is a simple CR2032, same as the HR strap.
Did you notice is your cadence drops out at the same time?
luv2climb I was told by Garmin tech support that the 705 defaults to wheel sensor for speed when installed,as opposed to getting speed from GPS is that true or do I have to select that in settings?I am getting 705 for Christmas and when I was looking at owners manual online I did not see anything in the manual on/if there is an option for that.

The sensor is pretty darn close (like the width of a credit card.) I've already tried using both "when stopped" and "custom speed below 3mph." I didn't notice if the cadence dropped out during autopause. The 'autopause' message distracted me I guess. I don't think it's the battery. It picks up the cadence pretty well.
I sent an email to Garmin, but of course nobody ever hears back when they send an email to tech support...
I'm going to try disconnecting the spoke magnet. Hopefully GPS alone will give me good-enough speed readings.
Other than that, I like it. Hopefully they get this sorted out.

That is correct (see my post above yours). There is no setting for that. It happens automatically.

How much flex is there is your frame and/or wheels when you are out of the saddle? It may be close when you are off your bike looking at it but that may all change when you are out of the saddle grinding up a roller. Have you checked that the magnet is passing the sensor along the marked line in the sensor arm?
Garmin Tech support is actually pretty good about responding. It may take 2 or 3 days but they generally respond to all emails in my experience.

Just thought of one more thing. For the bike profile in use do you have the box checked nexted to Cadence? To check this go to Menu/Settings/Profile & Zones/Bike Profile.
If you have it checked, do you have Auto or Custom selected and what is the wheel circumference set to?

Hi luv2climb. Cadence is checked, and wheel size is set to auto. It shows 2119mm as the detected wheel size.
I did get an email response from tech support, but it was one of those "hmm I've never heard of that before" responses.
I think maybe I'll just disconnect the spoke magnet and just see if the running speed indication is close enough. I don't really watch it all that much anyway, except on descents where I like to see how fast I'm going. Other than that I'm usually not going very fast :)
(I can't believe this thing can actually find the satellites from INSIDE my brick house... amazing.)

This morning it started doing it even while seating and on the flats... Crap. I disconnected the spoke magnet at work. I think the speed indication from just the satellite is close enough for now.

Sounds to me like a dead battery or magnet placement. These units have been known to ship with dead batteries in them. I know that the last time mine had a dead battery the constant autopause was symptom.

I'll check the battery. I was watching the cadence today, and it seemed a bit off at times like it was missing some of the rotations.
