dig the albys.
thanks... I must say... just for crusing around... these are so much more comfortable then the stock drop bars that I had on there before... between that, and the Rivendell cork grips... although I need to find a way to clean them... only had them a few weeks, but they are getting a bit dirty from me working on the bike, and then test riding :-)
thanks

I'm new to this, so please forgive if I am asking a stupid question.
Your rear gear, I see there are two. Are both usable? Can you turn the wheel around and use the other gear? Flat vs hill gear? thanks.

they are both usable... it is called a flip flop hub... on one side I have a BMX Freewheel, essentially making the bike a single speeder. if I take the wheel off, and flip it around... on the other side I have a track cog. There is no coasting with that. when the wheels are moving, the cranks are moving.
I guess you could set it up with 2 different gears... but both of mine are 16 Teeth
hope this helps

Beauty of cork...you can always sand the dirt off! (though I wouldnt do that too often nor too aggressively)
How's the forward position on those bars? I'd like a set for the few times I enjoy a casual ride; but that means I'd be on be on the forward portion most of the time (ride a hacked striaght bar now). The grips would prevent a quick bar-swap.

well if I am grabbing the grips.. I end up sitting nearly straight up... very much like an older city bike style.. which was part of the appeal for me...
yesterday I rode down to the beach.. headwind the whole way.. only a couple miles... if I need to get aero, I can hold the bar at the forward bends... not too stretched out... but it helped a bit... I'm defintiely not time trialin' on that bad boy !

Oh, c'mon, doing a TT on that bike would be kickass.

Was in Kona for the '96 Ironman. Some maniac rode a basketed-upright-grocerygetter (not to mention barefoot, wearing Hawaiin headress). Finished a farily respectable 12 hours or so IIRC.

uhh get your monitor fixed.. it is a Magenta color... damn the early 90's were bad time for bike colors... I'm debating painting it... at this point I just don't feel like stripping the bike down, and repainting...

who cares if it is pink ( I would actually prefer real pink to the fuschia...). The surly blog touched on this regarding their pink 1x1 frames: "Remember: pink is fast, regardless of whatever your homophobic racer geek friend tells you."
About your cork grips...
I got the same grips from Rivendell for my English 3-speed and I shellacked them for added protection. I never have to worry about dirt because it doesn't grind into the cork. I simply wipe them off and they look new again!
About your frame color...
That color is rad! A friend of mine has a Bianchi frame (that he thinks is fruity) the same color and I'm thinking of buying it and building it up. It's a good safety color if nothing else!

actually I do like the color, it's the fade to white that I don't like.

what did you use to shellac them... just standard home depot stule shellac ? did it make the grips less comfortable ?

<sigh> that beach looks so... <sigh, deep breath> heh. If only there thunderstorms in SoCal...
I used to have cork grips, they were nice - i liked how they got real dirty looking. Nice bike man... I like the color - but like the other poster said - shame about the fade to white in the front...

Shoulda been here last Thursday... out of nowhere torrential downpour with thunder and lightning for about 45 minutes... then it stopped.... weird..
I dig the cork grips.. very comfy...
The white does bug me the more I look at it... I'm thinking of eiher gloss black, or flat black, or a flat olive green.... just not sure yet

Heh, technically I shoulda been there about 2 years ago when I was planning on going to SoCal ;) ... I love thunderstorms... sadly - its frickin' snowing here again.
Flat black is never a bad choice, I'm doin' mine up flat black with a pin-up girl under the clear-coat a la the B17's, 25's, 29's etc of World War 2.
