We are now under a Winter Storm Warning/Advisory starting at 3:00AM local time.
NWS forcasts 4-6" of snow in the plains and near a foot above 5000' ASL.

Hard to believe I was out riding on Monday in 70F weather! I guess its still a bit early to let the winter cycling frorum go quiet. :)

Sorry naisme, mtessmer, and icerat! :(

I'm assuming that you are appologizing for the weather that you're sending us. I never bought into that thinking. I'm in shorts till October! I don't care if the record lows are still bellow zero. I believe in global waming.

I know a lot of people are glad to get good weather in the winter, but I hate it because it just hurts so bad when the good weather leaves and we get forecasts of snow. :(

YES! Just when I was getting ready to put all the bikes up for summer storage and turn the air conditioner up on high to hibernate for the summer. A couple more weeks of winter would be nice. After that when it hits 50F I just can't stand to be outside it's way to hot. All see all of you in the fall it's been fun :D

WHOA!!! I've lived in Minnesota all my life and my weather preference is still 75-85F. I just ride all winter just because I can and to make the most of my situation.

Yep, iceratt, I was referring to the weather.

I live in a world of extremes. Tuesday we set a record high temperature of 78F. Today we only hit 35F with heavy snow all day. :) Coffee, I guess I've just gotten used to the roller coaster ride that is living on the Front Range.

mtessmer, I am originally from central Texas. I also prefer the 75-85F range. My worry for this year is that we have just had the DRIEST winter and hydro year on record. What does that mean? FORREST FIRES! RANGE FIRES! SMOKE! FALLOUT!

Last year I wore a "surgical mask" on several rides due to the thick smoke. One ride was the morning after we had about 1/4" of ash fallout.

We are sure praying for some good spring rains, or more of this cool HEAVY WET SNOW! :) Besides, its fun to ride in.

Hopefully the jet stream has changed and you can keep your weather. We've, I've been contending with this crazy up and down temps this week, last week it looked like 60s and 70s were just around the corner, then Monday came and I broke out the Amfib tights to ride in cause it was just too darn cold without them. Still daylight highs in the 40s, it's that after midnight commute that gets me, when it's in the 20s. Oh the sun is out, and my face is red with sunburn. Can't wait for the tan lines to show up.
I'm a Texas boy myself (the hill country, Big D, the Valley, and a TCU alum) and I can't stand the real hot stuff, that's why I was happy to leave AZ. San Diego is like paradise to me. I'm told in three years I'd be like a loc and think it was too cold.

Yea cool! The Hill Country! That is where I'm from. I was born in Killeen and the family tree grows from the Llano area.

I got one of the winter cyclist with my April fools joke. Sorry I just couldn't help myself. :p

I can't wait for the temps to be in 60F. Your just like me I ride all winter because I can.

Have a safe ride.

Well, several inches of heavy wet snow on the ground. Snowed all day yesterday, but at least with these early spring snow storms, the roads don't get icy.

Johnny, your April fools joke wasn't bad. That thing with the moderators, however, was in bad taste. Glad to see you didn't leave for good!

Well, my roots in TX grow out of a little town that doesn't really exist any more, it's out around Abeline, a town called Trent. My Mother's father's father's father was one of the founders, and leader of the town band. It is a hard scratch area of TX that produced a president, LBJ. One of my great great aunts was a founding memeber of the daughters of the Texas Revolution and a Charter member of the Alamo preservations society. My great aunt's old house outside of Fort Worth was the last stop on the pony express route west, and also a stop for the cattle drives. It is now on the National Registry of historic buildings. She used to raise peacocks, and had her own private air strip in front of the house.
Sorry to hear about the snow. I checked NOOA, and you did get snow. But it looks like it might be the rain we are suppose to get in next week.
Sorry I missed the joke by the moderators.

It was painful today- warm and sunny (57), then the temperature dropped as the wind changed (good 'ole jet streams!) suddenly around 3pm, and then it got cold. I broke out the heavy gloves. Now they're talking about chance of snow tonight. :(

Yeah, that's us too Koffee, went out to do some shopping in a north wind with gusts to 30mph. Of course where I had to go was into that north wind, can't be an easy bike ride, no...

Got 40 miles in Saturday 60'ish, great ride but a little windy, went to dinner and had to do some things with a friend, went to friends, thinking I would go for another ride out since it was so nice at 6:30. Left friends at 8:30 to rain and wind, by 9:30 it was snowing so hard you could hear the build-up blowing off the trees and hitting the house. Woke up to 6" this AM.

I blame it all on you N7CZ for being so critical about our OH weather in that other post. Rained most of last week, but managed 90 miles last weekend. Looks like trainer time coming up with all the rain forecasted this week. Wind OK, Cold OK, cold rain and snow SUCK!

That weather is my revenge for not being able to ride while I was in Ohio.. Its part of my greater evil master plan!

I concur. Today the winds of Chicago blew my ass all the up and down the lakefront in my shorts. Plus, last time I checked weather.com, we are in for snow on Sunday.

Spring!: I shake my fist at you!!

Yeah, okay, winter, and we all got excited, pulled out our shorts and new shirts got out there and started riding like summer was just around the corner. NOT!
the winds for the past three days have been in the teens out of the NW. This isn't such trial physically, but mentally I take a whipping. Maybe it is the frequency of the noise/roar over my ear muffs that does it.
Today highs in the low 40s, with nightly dips into the 20s, and that wind. I'm tired of this already.

Tired of the wind? Or of the nightly dip in temps? Riding in the wind can be hard on your psychie(sp), but if you can learn to overcome it mentally, the physical challenge is very rewarding. Don't get me wrong, riding in wind sucks! But remember, if it does not kill you, it makes you stronger. (or something like that) :)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, been there done that, got the t-shirt. I have really tried to meet the challenge of a headwind from a different perspective, but that mental beating just drains me. I don't look forward to riding home after eight hours of following adolescents around, even if the wind is at my back, it's difficult to get psyched for the effort, cold water bottle, my powerbar is cold and difficult to bite off a chunk.

I just got ahead of myself, and forgot that it isn't summer yet. I'm glad I haven't shaved my hair off, that'd be too cold.

You're right it's not over yet! I rode my Easter Century yesterday in a snowstorm and the temps didn't go above 0C/32F, and it was much colder than that with the windchill.

However, since it doesn't appear that spring is coming anytime soon ... we might as well make the best of it and ride anyway. If spring does ever come, it is going to feel so strange to ride without my heavy wool socks, booties, tights, long-sleeved jersey, jacket, headband, and balaclava!

Being plunged back into the freezer for a week, really took it out of me, I notice I can't get the same range of motion I get with tights that I do without. Go figure. I did my same long ride home last night and while times were still good, it was cold, and the amfib material just doesn't allow my knees to flex quite as much as I would like, or need to really crank on the pedals.
I also had forgotten what a trip it is to ride in the cold, to feel your body actually do its job in getting you home on a long commute.
I wish I had the time to get out and do a century, or several. I have been working towards doing them on Monday's but there is so much going on in my life currently that getting 6-10 hours that aren't full for a ride is a bit of effort, but once I get it figured out I'm going to be pulling them regular.

You got that right, I awoke to 6" of heavy wet slop in the yard today. It's mid april and I just wanted to SCREAM!!! By the time I got home it had all melted. Thank God.

Oh well it should be in the low 60's and sunny by saturday.

Yes the snow pack looked ok up high on the back side of whiteface very patchy in spots down lower at about 2,100', but I have a limited view. It was very heavy wet snow and melted fast not to sure about the temps up high. If your going to ski whiteface this might be your last chance.

There's up to 14" on the ground (still) in my town in Michigans UP. Some of the snowmobile trails have a bit of snow on them, but they are muddy and pretty sloppy in spots.

Paradise, Mi Weather Online (http://www.upmich.com/vagabond/weather.htm)

I run a website for snowmobilers who like to ride in Mi. It has a webcam, pictures, comments, etc...,and I provide it as a free service to all. I invite you to check it out.

Thanks,

Last weekend was the last weekend of the season on our "local" ski resort.

I had to travel to our Helena office today passing through the front range and into the heart of the Rockies. I am sorry to say that there is no snow left at elevation. Its so dry in the low country here that there was even a grass (range) fire on the road out of town to my place today. It consumed about 7 acres. :(

Its going to be a rough summer.

I am hoping for some remaining snowpack on the northern aspects of Marcy or in Pelkey basin(Phelps) on 4/17-18. Last May there was good snow on Gothics and saw lots on other peaks. This year the snow has been kind of slim.

Even with the snow/rain we got here we are still below averge. Nothing like the conditions out west that you are experiencing. I'm hoping and praying you get mutiple days of a slow steady rain.

I wanted to add Gothics to my list this winter, but had to cut the trip short. We were only able to climb lower wolfjaw, upperwolfjaw and armstrong. We had to turn back due to the time of day and high wind conditions. Maybe next year I can add #32 on my winter 46er list.

Man that stinks! We have been in a 10 year drought here. The NWS is warning of record wild fires this year if we don't have good spring rains. Well, the rain has still not materialized. March was one of the driest on record. Its normally our wettest month. This is the time of year when the river is normally quite high due to spring run off. On my ride home today along the river, I noticed it is low. :(

I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed for us all. :)
