Utility Cycling - hauling a canoe

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I inherited a 17 foot long by 3 foot wide fiberglass canoe, and have a great spot to use it within 4
Miles of my house. Impart your ideas upon me!

I use a BAW 96A. My kayak is 13' w/ 30" beam. My usual spots are 3 and 7 miles from my house.

I'd say the lightest way possible would be to fashion up a rotatable mount to attach one end to your rear rack and strap a couple wheels to the other end. I'm thinking that you could carry it the way they do very long logs. After all, the canoe is rigid enough to act as a frame for you and save weight.

That's quite a trailer. My arrangement for a similar boat is much less elaborate:
205046
I just tie the bow to the seat rails and have the boat on a canoe cart.

Last week I stumbled upon this website. This carrier is advertised for canoes and kayaks:

Funny this thread got resurrected right when I finished my towing rig. Here's my 17 foot kayak hooked up to my Big Dummy. It works great!
