Northern California - Lead Bikes needed for this Sunday & other events

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I know a few guys who promote running races and they are always looking for people to be lead cyclists. Sometimes just as a volunteer for a t-shirt and post race goodies, but sometimes they are paid $50-$75 for a few hours of riding in front of the lead runners in a race. The job involves knowing where to go (maps and pre-ride of course available) and telling anyone who might be on the course to get out of the way (Pete, I think you’d like this part! :innocent:)

Anyway, I need a couple guys to help out with an XC running race in GG Park on Sunday (3 races at 9, 9:45 and 11 AM, so arrive by 8 and done by noon). Mtn or cyclocross bike recommended since it’s on grass and trails, and involves at least 1 log, so a good bunny hop or cyclocross style dismount and carry is required. Pay for this is $50. Please send me a private message if interested in this race or possible future races.

Thanks,

Chris

Cool!

It's a real fun atmosphere.

The race is the pacific association and western regional championships XC race. The course is a 2 mile loop. Master Men (40+) do 4 miles (2 laps), women do 4 miles, and elite men do 6 miles (3 laps).

We need 2 lead bikes in front of the race and one sweeper bike behind the last runner so the officials know when to stop timing. The elite men run some of the miles as fast as 4:30 (up to 13.5 mph on soft grass is a pretty good workout!), while the back of the race may be as slow as 12 min miles (5 mph) in the master race (we get some masters runners who are over 80 and it's great to see them out there competing!)

Anyone else?
