Good for him. That's a nice race to win.
He's needed this for a while.

Guess that blows this up... (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=47601)
Woop! Atta boy, Georgie! (Where's a jumping up and down smiley when you need it?)
But let me ask this - and I almost hate to bring it up... We count a GC win, as a win, of course. And there shouldn't be any question about Hincapie's talent. He's got 30 months of top-ten finishes, and won by 10 seconds at DePanne.
But he didn't actually win a stage this week. Do we still need to see him cross the line, arms raised, to be sure the dry spell is broken??

One win in three (?) years doesn't exactly blow it up.

Yeah, he really does suck... (http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos.php?id=photos/2004/mar04/depanne/stage4/cn630)
How does he stay employed?
Why does Lance keep this stiff around?
because, like i said in the other thread, he's as strong as an ox. if you put him on the front of the group and tell him to pedal hard, he'll do that and he'll do it very well.
it's when you make him race for himself that he has a tendency to screw things up.

I never denied that he was a great team rider.
And Laggard....I admit his sprinting/finishing is a little overrated...thats not his fault. Just no reason for some to "bag" on the guy.

Wow! Insight from someone who's been involved in cycling for what...two years now? Oh that's right, I forgot. You know someone who knows someone who knows someone that is going to interview George. That gives you a special insight into his mental capacity.
George has talents that have kept him at the highest level of this sport for a period roughly equivalent to have the span of your life, and you...well, you've worked in a pet shop and part time in a bike shop. You go girl!

The passion raised by the Georgie debate is surprising.
I like the guy. I have the utmost respect for him as a team rider. Perhaps if he hadn't been in a domestique roll and worked his arse off for Postal for the last few years he could have been a great winning classics rider. As it is, the amount of work he does for Lance has to take a toll. What he and riders like him do is nothing short of amazing and we should never say anything bad about them.
I think that's a fair statement.
Ya mean I picked a good topic Laggard??? Hugs and kisses from George and I...lol
Lets find another inspiring topic...mmmm??

Not to break the dry spell, but to shut up his naysayers. You could argue that not counting on any single stage win is the only way George *could* win a race. :(
BTW, I'm a huge George fan, and don't think it diminishes the accomplishment.

Guys here beating up on GH again?
-and he just won De Panne? (Any professional rider in the world would be ecstatic to add that race to his palmares)
Let me get this straight.....he's in great form, Roubaix is next week (Flanders is maybe too soon).
-what's he doing wrong? Am I missing something?
Not missing a thing there Flaneur...it's just that some don't have the respect for a rider that may lack just that last little acceleration to win in some sprints. Climbs like a SOB despite size just doesn't finish first in the mountains. Always seems to be the last of the non climbers supporting Lance in the TDF mountains...peels off after blowing away 95% of the peloton. Anchors one of the top TTT teams...you know, the one that wins the TDF because the team is so strong. Just another one of those domestiques there to bring Fore some water.

Great idea! I think I'll tell him to his butt to the front of the next group I'm in ;) Not that I could hang on behind that freight train...

I thought he rode very well today in the Tour of Flanders, he missed the winning break, as did all the favorites, becuase they were only watching each other. However, on the last climb with 11km to the finish, I would think any should have been followed.
The big guns were all looking at each other to see who was going to chase, but by then it was too late.
George finished ahead of Museeuw and Van Petegem by 22 seconds.
