I hate these price threads but this is sort of a unique bike. A acquaintance has a Bruce Gordon Chinook for sale, my size with Campy Nuovo Record group. The bike is in good condition, not excellent. These are fairly rare (only 101 of them made) so I am not sure if it is worth the grand it is offered to me at.

What do you think?

The steel that Bruce Gordon uses should last the owner forever, and his bikes are not inexpensive to begin with. What is it about this bike that is not "perfect"? How old is it and approximately how many miles has it seen?

Pant is not perfect. He does not know the history or miles it has seen. I think it is a 1981.

Dings, dents or rust?

Assuming no structural damage and all components working properly, you should still talk him down a couple of hundred dollars. Having said that, if it fits and if it works wonderfully (despite some aesthetic blemishes), and if you really like the bike and are willing to pay a grand to own and ride it, then I'd say the price is fair! (I personally love the Bruce Gordon bikes.)

Still, see if your friend could meet you lower.

It seems on the high side...

The bike is very nice but there are some differences from a "Bruce Gordon" and I don't think that it commands the same valuation.

$750 if it fits you and it rides nice would be fair but far from a great deal.

I agree with vip. It's not a custom Burce Gordon, rare or not. A Bruce Gordon show bike sold on ebay not long ago for a bit over 1k. And that was before the economy tanked. In general, I believe Bruce Gordons are undervalued in the market; I would personally put the Chinook in the $600-700 range, unless it is really pristine.
