So I've been wanting to do a good long ride, since all I've been doing lately on the bike has been commuting. I decided to do the loop around a reservoir that all of the hardcore folks do every weekend. Once I did about 18 miles or so of riding up and downhill, I decided I felt altogether too good to have done a long ride, and decided to see how far I could go.

Which ended up being around 50 miles. (http://www.wirewd.com/bike/blog/50_miles/)

It was great. Two personal fitness goals (doing the hill and 50mi) at the same time. :)

Great! Those milestones are just such great accomplishments. You'll be doing your first century soon. :thumb:

I remember my first 50+ mile ride. It was July this year. I'm hoping for my first century next year.

Congrats, So far I've only been about 45 miles and I was pretty worn out. The route had some pretty nasty hills on it though.

Thanks all. :)

Two-days-later-update: I'm not even in pain. A sore saddle at the end that went away in a few hours and a little stiffness in the leg the next day.

I'm still buzzed, too.

Um, but yeah... this is a huge motivator. I am realizing that I can do impressive cycling feats and that's exciting to me. And it's *fun* doing this in ways that going to the gym is just plain NOT. I can do this. Already plotting how I'm going to do the 100mi ride. :)

brockga (http://www.bikeforums.net/member.php?u=148071), your route did have more climb than mine did. I had 1400 ft up, 1400 ft down, and then it was mostly level terrain after that.

I didn't post that because I was trying to brag, I am pissed I didn't go fifty but I'm not sure I could have done another 5 miles after that ride. Congrats again on your ride. I am currently trying to figure out how I can make it from Auburn, AL to Eufaula, AL without riding on any four-lanes. So far I have not been able to do it without also going on some dirt roads.
