Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does anyone carry liability insurance? I am seriously considering getting it because of cycling. The reason I am is because I think, what if I accidentally caused a car accident and was sued. Has anyone else thought of this or already carry a policy?
Be interesting to know if such is even available, and what it might be priced at.
You might check with your agent and see if it is covered under household insurance
or an umbrella policy. One guess as to cost: no more than Uninsured Motorist
rider on your auto policy. Steve

In the United States, a bicyclist is covered by the liability portion of her homeowner or renter's policy. You will of course, want to check that with your own insurance agent.

In the state of Montana, we are required to carry liability insurance on our vehicles. I know my policy covers me no matter what vehicle I am operating. Since a bicycle is a vehicle, I am covered by my liability insurance policy that I carry on my cars. I check into this after I got hit by a car a couple of weeks ago.

I have third-party insurance as part of my membership with Bicycle Queensland. Having said that, I've managed to ride over 100,000km without ever needing to make a claim (or even going close), so I don't think it's really worth worrying about.
