Great Lakes - Defiance Ohio campgrounds?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Adventure Cycling ran an article on cycling in the Defiance area this month complete with routes. We're thinking about making this a destination next summer. A search of campgrounds in the area came up with a couple but I couldn't find any websites with additional information on them. Does anyone have more information on either of them? They're Powell Creek Campgrounds and Sheperd's Pasture Campgrounds.

I will ask my daughter, she attends Defiance College. Also have some good cycling friends in Defi, so I will email them and ask about camping.
Did you know that GOBA is having a 2-night stop in Defi next year, and the GOBA crit will take place there also.

Hey Bev, my buddy Dave says Powel Creek is set up for long-term campers, and that Sheperd's Pasture would be a better spot for camping. There is also camping about 3 miles south of Archbold, don't have the name of the site though.
Hope that helps.

I plan on doing GOBA this year. I've done XOBA for the past two years and enjoyed it but I'm ready for a change. Our club provides private SAG service for Goba and that should make it slightly easier to find our luggage and a camping spot for the night.
Maybe we'll have a chance to checkout the camping situation for the other trip during the 2-night stop. I would appreciate any other info you can find.

That really helps. Maybe we'll get a chance to check it out while on GOBA.

That will be nice, having private sag service, fancy, shmancy! Will they set up your tent too?:D That would be really sweet. Can I join your club?:o
One day on GOBA I got in later than my friends because I got a late start after working the medical tent in the morning. When I got in, I found out they had set up my tent for me! Wow, what a feeling
I was thinking about skipping GOBA this year, but now that I see the route through Defiance, I decided to do it.
What do you like/dislike about XOBA? I was thinking of giving it a go this year.

Unfortunately they don't set the tent up for us....just find a spot to set it up:) We also pay for the extra service:)
I liked XOBA. There are fewer riders and you have the option of camping indoors or outdoors. Many of the indoor facilities are air conditioned:thumb: We had use of the showers in the colleges or high schools.
It's geared toward the more experienced rider. The routes are longer and can be very hilly depending on the location. The first day last year was brutal. Temp was 94 with a heat index of 100+ with hills, hills and more hills:twitchy: I would do it again this year but I'm doing GOBA, several one-day events and a trip to Colorado for some biking. It also occurs about the same time as a local event and I'll be volunteering for it this year.
