Classic & Vintage - ISO and For Trade thread parts 2 and 3.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. WTB- Lugged steel touring frame 56/7mm. Basically looking for a LHT alternative in the C&V style. Price range similar to LHT($400-500). Canti brakes and low rider mounts preferred, but not a deal breaker. Thanks
Not to hijack, but I was thinking the same at one time.
I priced a new Bob Jackson frame at about $650 shipped to the USA. I would build it with Deore LX components and budget around $400 for wheels (give or take).
Surprise surprise, it's a touch more than a new LHT when all is said and done, and about the same as a new Trek 520.

I'm looking for a 1" quill stem that is hinged at the clamp so that I can change bars by removing one bolt. The reach should be 70-80mm. I know that 3TTT made some in the '90s called Evol. There must be others.
Syncros made one as well. I have a 1" one, but it's threadless. I'm trying to decide which bike to use it on.
I had a NOS 1" quill Syncros, but I sold it on eBay to some guy in Europe for $120.
Just had a look. Nothing on eBay for the Syncros.
The Evol is on there, but the shortest is a 95mm.

Trade: my shimano 600 sc6207 170mm crankset for a 600 set with biopace. I know, strange request.

I saw a LHT at a local store and it lets us know why bikes like the Miyata 1000's are getting top dollar. Some may disagree but the Miyata 1000 simply blows the LHT out of the water.

The LHT is one of the most boring bikes I've seen. It does absolutely nothing for me. Plus, they already lost my business (as has Rivendell) by telling me I have to have 26" wheels. If I wanted a 26" wheeled touring bike, I'd put drop bars on an old mountain bike.

I'm tall enough to get the 58cm, so the wheel size isn't an issue. It's a style thing, the LHT is great, totally functional and butt ugly. I am just testing the waters for something else. I've checked the Bob Jackson out, nice look, but for the price I could buy a nice vintage frame and have a few bucks left. EBay is short any touring frames right now, so I tried here. If I could ride advice or comments I'd be set, but no offense, come with a trade offer or go to the touring forum to talk about the merits of the LHT. I've done my homework, I'm a well informed shopper. I don't need my hand held.

26" wheels? What a joke.
It's the new standard worldwide for serious loaded touring, because 26" tires are ubiquitous, and they are the only size available in some far reaching locales.

Up for trade is my 62cm c-c (60 tt) Tommaso SLX. I really don't want to part with it but I have, literally, run out of hooks. These frames were sold by Ten Speed Drive Imports in Marina Del Rey, CA. The frames were OEM's from top Italian builders and brought to the US for paint. This one is made of SLX tubing and is in excellent shape. They are very fine frames.
The frame has been repainted (not by me) in the Irish colors (or is it Italian?) and is in great shape. The paint looks wet. There are a few surface scratches but no scratches into the paint.
PM if you are interested - we can work out a deal. This is a steel is real deal.
Note: only the frame and fork is for trade/sale.

Also have a look at Mercian (http://www.merciancycles.co.uk/frame_king_mercia.asp) The King of Mercia is their top touring frame, and probably the top contender for me until I started doing some work for a well-known custom framebuilder here in Philly. With the current exchange rate, that L515 works out to be $737, not too shabby.
Still, one day I'll own a Mercian...they're beautiful bikes with one hell of a heritage.

,you should realize how closely mtb and touring bikes are... especially one made for heavy fully loaded touring. I do agree though that a myiata 1000 is a better bike (and would most proabably have cost a bit more then a surly new adjusted for inflation), but to discount entire company's lineup because they adjust the wheel size on a smaller frame is completely ridiculous. To maintain proper geomtetry/handling/toe overlap etc... using differing wheel sizes makes perfect sense. Not doing so, means you have your priorities off.

No it isn't. It is a make or break point for me. That is what I WANT....a 700c touring bike in 53/54cm. Lots of other companies make them, so I won't be TOLD what I'm going to ride. I ride 700c road bikes. Are you honestly going to tell me that a touring bike has a steeper headtube angle than a road bike? No, it's a more relaxed headtube angle - putting the front wheel well out of the way of my toes.
My priorities are that I want what I want, and I won't settle for something that I don't want. How is that "off"?

I've done that before. It's quite a fun ride but I wouldn't want to ride long distances on it. I really like my Gran Turismo. I put on 8 speed hybrid wheels and 40c tires on it. It still moves as quickly as most of my skinny tired bikes, and rides like a beach cruiser. Kind of the same idea but with larger rims. It seems to make all the difference for me.,,,,BD

i have a panasonic touring deluxe frame in your size. canti brakes, fender and rack eyelets front and rear. no low rider mounts, though (p clamps are supposed to be stronger anyway, right?). cosmetically it's pretty beat, but structurally it seems to be all there. i'll take some pics if you're interested.

Yellow saddle, good condition, I'd have to see pics.
Have:

Campy Mirage 31.8 double FD, new.
Campy MIrage braze-on triple FD, new.

Aussie black deep V front 700c wheel laced to an Ultegra hub.
Shimano 600 tricolor FD, braze-on (2)
Shimano Light Action DT shifters, 2x6 and 2x7
Have:
Mavic Sport tubular rims (usually OEM with bikes) 36 hole 3x, laced to generic (possibly suntour hubs)
Rims are clean, bearings could probably use a repacking.
want:
Mavic GP4, or Gel330 rims
do not have to be laced to hub, would prefer 36 hole but will take 32 hole.
I have a 60cm Giordana lugged, steel track frame set up porteur style. It's a nice lightweight frame, but too big....and I've found that coasting is important to me. I'm pretty sure it's a 1989-90 frame. No tubing decals, but all the other pearl gray w/magenta lettering Giordana frames I've seen have been built with Oria ML-25 tubing. Paint is chipped and scratched. It's set up with Nitto Promenade bars, bar end levers and a front Dia-Compe centerpull 500(?) brake. I'm keeping the wheels, but I'm open to swapping it bare or built-up.
I want: 58/59cm lugged steel bike with cantilever brakes. Mid-upper level model. Maybe you have an extra Lotus Odyssey, Univega Gran Turismo, Columbus tubed Schwinn Voyageur SP or Panasonic PT-5000? Please, no unicrowns.
I attached a link to my Flickr page, but I haven't had much luck with making these work in the past.

Front nut to mid 90s campy brakes.
26.6 seat post
Silver Cinelli quill stem ~120mm (prefer 1R but not picky)
57/58cm Zeus, Razesa or any other vintage Spanish frame
Have:
Nice AGC brakes
NOS (kinda) smoked chrome 3t stem
Some Nokon cables/housing
Black Cinelli 1A stem
Random Cinelli bars
Shimano R700 10sp shifters
Most of a Shimano 10speed group

Yup. Starting to think about how I want my new Tourlite built...853 with polished stainless longpoint lugs, I think, unsure about the paint. Either vintage English style panels, or Cinelli silver and see if I can get some Cinelli-esque Bilenky transfers made up...if he goes for it.
