Is it the squared-off U shaped thing with a barrel adjuster on it?
Yes it is and I have one but it doesn't match up; it has a slot in it to catch the tang on the bolt head but it's oriented 60 degrees or so to the rear of the matching insert slot on the seatstays. In short the clamping slot on the seatstay that accepts the locking tang on the bolt head is oriented forward and the hole in the hanger bracket is facing to the rear. Have I muddied the waters yet?
The hanger itself mounts externally on the seatpost/seatstays and has side-to-side dimension of 22-24mm.

I don't know RT. It would seem to me the tang is there to serve a purpose--to keep both the bolt head and the cable hanger set while the nut on the binder is tightened--the bolt head is round and flat and I wouldn't want to bugger it up trying to get a grip on it to keep it from turning or scrape up my new paint job by having the hanger floating up everytime I put on the brakes.

I think you either need to find a hanger that's got the slot properly oriented, or you need to add one with the proper orientation. This seems a case for a picture, 23.
ISO: Aero levers with gum hoods, preferably of japanese origin, but I'll consider non-Japanese stuff if it looks spiffy.

Ah, I thought it was allen head each side, so you could hold it while tightening. Is there any way to convert the bolt?

I'm thinking of just putting very thin plastic washer and thin lock washers on each side and trying to live with what I've got while I search for something more appropriate. There is also the option of using the external double allen-head mtb style of binder, or finally just surrendering and drilling out the holes to accept a standard 8mm recessed style binder bolt.
John I'll try to get a couple of pics up to illustrate...
Yes 23, get some pics up of your situation. I have some hangers that as I recall seem oriented "backward", not sure if they will fit your needs, but the pics will help.

I feel you pain, just cracked a really nice campy record brake arm trying to bend it back. It's really nicely milled and I was thinking of putting them on my gazelle. I had probably got it too the point where it would have operated fine but I couldn't leave well enough alone... trying to bend is back straight in the vice and I heard the crackling sound of aluminum cracking.... instantly depressed for the rest of the day.
I am truly sorry to hear that. That is definitely worse than my stripping a screw. I can get a replacement for a nickel at the hardware store, only it will be a standard steel screw, not a chromed hex screw. Anyway each cage has 7 screws, so I can get by with one missing. And yes, I was assembling my pedals with your Superbe road cages. (Did you get the MTB cages from me yet?)

Bummer that it was not the rear arm - at least a kludge with another stock arm would have sufficed reasonably in that situation.

I'm crossing my fingers that someone local will want to love this. It is the only one I have ever seen, and I would much rather "keep it in the family" than sell it on CL.

-Firestone tires (original?)

This "humpback" model was a JR model I believe. The cranks are 145mm long, so great for a short guy/woman or your kid that is begging to go riding with you. Stand over is around 30 inches. Same wheelbase as a regular Raleigh. It just needs some riding, a great home, and a little adjustment on the front brake. I'm willing to drive up to an hour away from zip 12401. When I can do this, I don't know. Hopefully sooner than later, but definitely by the time the warm weather comes around. This bike is in nice shape :)

I just picked up a 21" Ross MTB from the late 70s (ad claimed) early 80s (I believe), probably the Mt. Washington (low end / 1 piece crank) model from looking through the catalogs, but no markings to indicate which model. Needs tuning, a new tire, etc.
If you're in the L.A. area and dying for an old-school MTB, or are looking for a bulletproof (heavy) frame with horizontal dropouts to make a sturdy single-speed city bike out of, let me know.
I picked up the frame thinking about making an old-school city bike out of it, but as I price the parts in my head that I'd want to add, it's gotten to the point that I think someone else might enjoy it more than I would.
It's too heavy to ship, but if you're in the L.A. area and want it, and have a fairly long 22.2mm quill stem or other cool stuff to trade, let me know.
