Ms Gum is the same gal from last seasons "Summer Sports Zone" and the TDF coverage. She appears to have gone for more of a sexpot look this season than the girl next door look she was sporting last season. The form fitting top doesn't hurt either.

In any case, people are talking about the coverage and that's not bad...

I'm sure Bobke had a thousand one liners about Kirsten's new look he could have unleashed :D

I can't say much for her reporter / anchor skills or her cycling knowledge, but she sure fills out a sweater nicely

my money is betting that OLN, after hearing people's opinion of her from last year, sent her to a plastic surgeon with a few thousand dollars to help try and distract people from paying too much attention to what she's saying.

Is it so hard for OLN to find a woman who knows what she's talking about? There's gotta be an ex-racer who they could hire.

In 2002, they had Jessica Grieco on staff. She did not re-appear in 2003. Jessica is at least an accomplished cyclist and knows the sport.

I could clearly see she has at least two nice assets that make her perfect for the job. I bet she does the weather at some local station too.

She used to be a co-anchor on WCCB, a Fox station in Charlotte, NC. Is it just me or does Fox use the stereotypical formulae for their anchor lineup? Pair some slick-haired guy with a dumb blonde. I've seen this anchor team on every Fox News station so far... including my own local station. It'd be funnier if it wasn't so sad considering this practice was already ridiculed in such shows as Murphy Brown.

I watched last night, and honestly I thought she did an ok job.
Here's my reasoning: Last year she is paired with Bobke, and working
with Phil, Paul and all the others. They know alot she knows a little.
This year she appears to know more about the sport, how to talk about
it and not get overly gushy about Lance (even tho he was main focus
of last nights show).
As for appearance, when the show started I heard the voice but geeez she
looked very different (and not just the bodacious. . . . ) her face is different,
and if you noticed she has those rolls on her waist, she just looked plain fat!
(wonder if she is pregnant? that would explain all of the above ).
Bobke, on the other hand looked alot "fitter" than last year, as if he
layed off the Fat Tire beer all winter and actually rode a bike.

You know that OLN would never hire a knowledgeable female host unless she was good looking.

I don't think she's that bad at all. Her job is not analysis, that's Bob's roll. She's the fill in. She asks the questions, does the segues, etc.

At least she does a decent job with pronunciation of names, something that Phil and Paul don't seem to care too much about.

Does it really matter if she knows allot about cycling? Bob is there for the knowledge and he is enough.

Anyway, she looks completely different from last year. She either gained weight or had some cosmetic surgery on her face. Yeah, she definitely looked like she was hiding midgets under her sweater.........god bless her.

Same situation in the industry that I work in. All of the secretaries are "model" material to impress the clients. I will say that it does not impress or influence me at all! In fact, when I walk into a business and see that, it has just the opposite effect. Brains are far more important that looks!

Interestingly enough, I just got done attending a high-tech trade show and you should have seen the booth-bunnies.

Brillig has it right. I had a conversation with a friend that was at the Tour last year. As part of the package, they had the opportunity to meet with Bobke, Kirsten, Paul, and Phil. Her impression was that she was very professional and provided a counter balance to Bobke. Paul & Phil are there for the technical analysis, Bob & Kirsten provide more of the "up close and personal" element to the broadcast. In her opinion, Kirsten is just doing the job that she was hired to do.

You know, it is so sad that people let those situations influence them so much!

Here is a good example. One of my friends is a loan office for a regional bank. The highest producing officer, which he told me she produced more than $10 million in loans last year, was called up to speak at the companies yearly meeting of loan officers. The president of the bank asked her how she did it. She responded to the entire audience saying that she wore the shortest and most provocative clothing! That's sad when people let the opposite sex influence them by the way they dressed and not by the facts of the business deal!

Another good example that he told me about. He had one of the Tennessee Titans Cheerleaders in training to become a loan officer. He told me that by just having her with him, he was getting people to sign mortgage deals without even blinking. Is that sad or what?!?!?!

I agree! To me, though, money is by far more important, and one of the most important things!

"Junk in the Trunk"? THats a new one LOL.

As for trade shows, they all have booth bunnies, it's part of the game, expect it. But I agree, why can't they get a woman who knows what she's talking about? On tv, you don't want a booth bunny. Here on CBC, they got Leslie TOmlinson, a mountain biker/crosser, to call the world MTB champs. She's really good, knows about cycling and is quite pretty-blond and cute, but in a natural way, not fake like Kirsten Dumb. CBC only uses her once or twice in a year, OLN should get her for sure! Of course, it's moot for us, we don't get any of those races except for the Tour on OLN canada. But I would ff over the taped conversations if they involved Kirsten. She just got on my nerves.
