I picked up a new home theater system last night, I can't wait to hook it up this evening! I'm wanting to leave work but I'm trying my best to be "responsible". IT SUCKS!!!!! :twitchy:

You forgot to post pics of the cables and connectors! I still have the HUGE (as big around as my thumb) Monster Cables from my old Cerwin Vegas. Got rid of the speakers, but could not part with the cabling.

Actually now that everything is hdmi the cables aren't nearly as bad as they used to be. I do still need to purchase a subwoofer RCA but other than that I'm pretty much ready to go. I'll probably just use a standard MonsterCable RCA's that I have had for a couple of years in the mean time. I'm glad I already have all of the HDMI cables though, those can get expensive for good ones.

A few years ago I did a bunch of cabinet work for my geek buddy when he opened a computer and audio shop. In exchange he installed a built in a surround system in my living room.

It's too bad that I hardly ever watch TV in the living room because the sound is great.

Yep, digital sound has changed cabling. I read one "expert" that said digital was either connected or not connected and that cabling did not matter. He said you could connect your components with paper clips and if a signal was getting from A to B, then you were good to go. Based on this, I used cheap RCA cables to connect my video stuff to my audio stuff.

The connection from speaker to amp though are still influenced by cables. It was amazing to me to read some reviews of connoisseur level cabling when I was looking into surround.

I used to have a very high end all Sony component setup and a very BIG pair of Cerwin Vegas with 18" woofers.

Now I have an assortment of low to mid range stuff and entry level Polk surround.

Most digital stuff is going to be interpreted by a cpu and converted to analog for the speakers, so cabling is less important than it used to be. As long as the cpu gets the signal it should be good.

Agreed. At this point, I only have one device(satellite) connected via HDMI. I used a cheap $20 cable and I just do not see how a mega dollar cable could make much(if any) difference. Also...Only have one optical connection on my receiver(which is used by a DVD player), so I'm using a cheap RCA coax connection from my new TV to my receiver. Works just fine.

Thanks, I appreciate it. We ordered this thing about five or six weeks ago. When I called Big Sandy the last week of October they told me they would delivering the couch the first week of November. I then called my neighbor and gave his son my love seat, and gave a friend of my dad's my leather chair. The only thing I kept was a broken down couch that would only be good for WVU to burn after a good football game.

When I called back to Big Sandy two weeks ago they said that it would be at the end of November. I was pissed! I thought about cancelling the order but we really like the couch, otherwise we would have never purchased it from Big Sandy in the first place. Also, I would have had to wait another 6 - 8 weeks for Lazy Boy to get the couch to me.

When my wife called Big Sandy this weekend to see what was going on they told us they had all but two pieces of it. I told my wife to call back and tell them to bring what they had. We can't even have any company over right now. It would be nice to be able to have a couple of people over for the holidays.

As for the remote, right now I'm trying to keep track of five right now. I'm researching all in one remotes right now, I'm leaning towards a Logitech.

Congrats on the new HT system. I was lucky enough to be able to upgrade to really good system a couple of years ago (B&W/McIntosh) and it really does make HT a joy. A couple of thoughts for you ...

Depending on how loud you like to listen to 2 channel music, 90 WPC could be strained at times to keep running cleanly. The Klipsch are very efficient speakers and will put out a lot of volume with less power ... but if you like to really crank the volume control at times, you could drive the amp into clipping and that can fry voicecoils even in horns. I've had my system running at over 200WPC continuous, but I'm not worried about the amps clipping because of the system.

For remotes, check out the Universal Remotes MX-850 (http://www.universalremote.com/product_detail.php?model=38). It's got lots of hard buttons which I've decided I like. My old HT receiver had an LCD touch pad remote and the hard buttons are much easier to use. I can do pretty much everything with my thumb vs. holding the remote in 1 hand and touching the "soft keys" with the other. Means you don't have to put your drink down. It's got tremendous macro programming capability. You program it on your PC, which means if there is a problem with the remote and you have to send it in for service or replace it, you just download the programming. You do need a serial cable (I used a USB to serial adapter), but it's comfortable to hold and works well. My biggest gripe about it (vs. the older version I had) is that they dropped the "chapter skip forward" and "chapter skip backwards" hard buttons in the center cluster.

That's frick'n awesome. I sure like the looks of Klipsch. If I ever finish my basement, I'll get something similar.

I found myself in Circuit City today looking for Christmas goodies for people. While I was there I went back into the sound room and listened to the Klipsh speakers again. I couldn't help but notice that they sounded better there. They had them running on an Onkyo 706 receiver and I had mine running on a 606 receiver. I just couldn't justify the price difference for the 706. The receiver costs $799. However, I decided to talk to a sales guy anyway. He told me that he could do it for $699 so I figured what the hell. :D

Next step was going home and unhooking mine and boxing it up. I paid $405 for mine, it was normally $499. While I was home I decided to check Crutchfield, they have the 706 for $599! Just for the heck of it I printed off their price and took it with me to Circuit City. I couldn't believe it but they actually matched the price! I ended up paying $206 difference and got a much nicer receiver!

Anyway, it sounds freaking awesome! I can't wait to get the center channel mounted and get everything tuned up. :D

I started this whole thing with a $1,699 store credit so I sort of had to go with them. I didn't think going for their extended warranty would be a good investment this time though. It really paid off with my old tv though. :D

I hate to brag but my Hsu sub would kick that Klipsch's ass. If you can you should consider taking back that Klipsch and consider getting either a Hsu sub or an SVS. Both make phenomenal subs and are well worth it. I know for a fact that Klipsch makes pretty good subs because I have listened to my friend's Klipsch sub. But, it really can't compete with the Hsu. Btw, the Hsu is actually an older model with a 10" woofer and the Klipsch has a 12". Same extension but noticeably clearer and a quicker response.

Good choice on those Klipschs. Some people think that they are bright but I like their sound. In a room with good acoustics they are amazing.

What are you running as a display?

55" Olevia LCD. I was a little leary about going with it but I decided that it was worth the risk. I picked it up from Compusa for $1,350 plus $120 shipping. I went ahead and picked up the extended warranty while I was at it. I am actually pretty impressed with the clarity of it. If it was side by side with a more expensive TV you could tell a little difference. However, once it is in the house by it's self it seems crystal clear. The blacks are the only dissapointment, but for the price I can live with it.

When / if it comes time to replace this sub I will probably go with an SVS. Unfortunately I got rid of the box that the sub came in (I returned my previous htib to compusa) so I can't return the Klipsch sub. I'm pretty happy with it though so I'm not too worried about it. Had I done enough research prior to my purchase I would have gone with a different brand though.

No, they aren't made by Velodyne. They are internet only companies that produce excellent subs for the price. Velodyne can be pretty good but they more often than not are way overpriced for what they are.

I called Circuit City and asked them if I could return the Klipsch sub even though I had gotten rid of the box and they said yes! I returned it last night and plan on ordering an SVS on Monday. I just wasn't happy with the performance of the Klipsch.

Just ordered the new sub. Went with the SVS PC12-Plus. I was able to get a "b-stock" for $899 plus $65 shipping. It should be here later this week!

I am very happy with it and there are some very good deals on them out there. You can get the 606 for around $300 online and the 706 (one I have) for around $450 or so online. I prefer the 706 since it seems a little more user friendly when it comes to setting it up. I still have a long way to go to get it where I want it though. I'm sure the new sub is going to help though.

Placed an order yesterday for a projector and a 106" screen. It should be pretty freaking cool! The screen will be installed in front of the 55" lcd tv and rolled up when not in use. I haven't decided if I am permanently mounting the projector on the ceiling or if I will just place it on the coffee table when in use. I'll decide after I get it and hook it up to see how much of a difference (if any) it will make.

Why don't you average it out and just install one 80.5" screen that can be used for everything?

Permanently mount the projector, but make it easy enough to remove so you can take it into the back yard on nice summer nights. :thumb:

That's a good idea, might do that. All I'll need to do would be paint all the windows in the house black. It shouldn't be any problem talking my wife into that. I'll just tell her that the new windows and doors they are installing today came that way! :roflmao2:

why not watch everything on the 106" screen? once you see some Hi Def on it you will not want to watch anything as small as a 55'er. what PJ did you go with? later.

I was looking at the Onkyo 606 but I just loved the Audyssey function stuff on the Denon. How much were the Klipsh Floor speakers? Our local best buy had those on sale this passed week.

I got the Klipsch speakers for around $850 or $900, can't remember exactly. I wasn't overly happy with the 606 either, I am very happy with the 706 though.

I went with the Sharp Vision DT-510 projector. It is supposed to be a very nice projector for a very reasonable price. All of the reviews I have read on it have been very positive.
