The LBS around here has these powerlinks that they say are made for 8 AND 9 speed chains but everywhere else online has them specific for 8 OR 9. Is there such a thing as a combo 8/9 powerlink?
It's not SRAM or anything, some company I never heard of and they don't have the good one by SRAM.

Generally not. The link has to be a close match to chain width. A sram 9 works with a shimano 9 but a sram 8 does not work with a shimano 8.
