Hi,
I have a problem. I took my bikes down the to the LBS. One was to get a $45 tuneup, a crankset installed, and both got new bars. The bill was over $200 in parts, as expected. But the labor was about $200. Which sounds weird. The Airborne alone had $150 in labor. Knock off $50 for a tuneup, and that leaves $100.
Should installing a crankset, and changing handlebars cost $100? I haven't picked up the Fuji yet, but it's going to be $70 on top of nearly $340 yesterday. The Fuji didn't need a tuneup, the only thing that was supposed to happen to it was installing a pair of handlebars. I don't get it.

Did it include removing/installing tape/grips brake levers/shifters? Or had you already done this?

I'm surprised the LBS did not give you an estimate when you dropped off the bikes.

Always get an estimate before work is performed. It protects everyone and avoids misunderstandings afterward.

The LBS should have been able to give you a firm estimate.

Installing a crankset and changing handlebars is about an hour job MAX, and thats if you had to unwrap and re wrap the bars. In reality, it could probably be done in less than 40 min.

$100.00 an hour? sounds like the Mercedes dealership.

Hi,
the shifters and the front der are Ultegra and compatible with the 105 crankset. There was one $10 roll of bar tape. I had them remove the tape, shifters and bars.
