Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Swedish or Danish word for Single speed?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi, I´m a half-danish half-swedish cyclist that´s in desperate need of help :D .
1. Does anyone know the Swedish or Danish word for fixed or single speed bikes?
2. Does anyone have any european links, preferably Swedish or Danish sites about fixed and ss?

why is it important?
Because I speak both swedish and danish daily so i´d like to know what it´s called...

ah, okay. Did you try a Google search?
Yep.
Not really sure what to search for though...
Try babel fish. Don't know if they support the language, but it's a start.
Dave
thanks
one question though
what´s babel fish?
It's a fish you stick in your ear. It translates languages. Vogon and the like.

Just make sure to take the fish out before the Vogans read their poetry, horrible stuff. I'd rather chew my arm off.

Tranlated to Danish at this website, http://translation.langenberg.com/
fixed gear = nagelfast indgreb
single speed = ugifte hastighed
to Swedish
fixed gear = fästad redskap
single speed = enkel fart
Thanks man, but that´s the direct translation of each word.
Gear has several meanings, and when you combine the words ex Fixed gear, they form their own word...
1: The closest you'll get to a Swedish terminology would be 'fast utväxling' or 'fast drev' for 'fixed gear; [/]'track bike[/I] translates into 'bancykel' in Swedish ('banecykel' in Danish). Singlespeed is, well, singlespeed. These words are pretty sketchy and un-googlable, though: there are only about 10-15 FG riders in Sweden, the last velodrome closed in the 60s, and you'll have a hard time finding people who know what you're on about (for LBSs, you might want to try Dr Spoke on Asogatan or Cykellabbet on, I think, Kocksgatan if you're in the Stockholm region).
2: I've been messengering in Tallinn for a while, but I still keep in touch with most of the Swedish FG riders through a mailing list I set up last year - e-mail me (jacob at jacob dot net) and I'll add you. For the Copenhagen scene, try www.cph-fxt.ownsthis.com.

Thanks!
The copenhagen area is better than stockholm as it´s alot closer to me and my family lives there so I´m more "at home" there than Stockholm.

Have had the language in my head lately because of having been watching Tilsammans (Together) by Lukas Moodysson.
How about ingen växling for fixed, literlly meaning "no changing."
How about ingen växling for fixed, literlly meaning "no changing."
But that would apply to singlespeeds as well, wouldn't it?

Posted this question on a swedish forum too.
One of them said that there´s basically zero ss and fixed gear enthusiasts in sweden but those that were just called it single speed....
Sweden really sucks when it comes to cycling culture, they got this beautiful country to roll in but they just lock themselves up in their cars or sit their ass on the bus!
Denmark is actually alot better than the swedes when it comes to cycling culture.
Well they´re better than than sweden in alot of aspects if you ask me..
Damn my parents for moving to this oval tight ass country!!! :D

That does suck. I was hoping it would be a great place for it, especially considering how much more people are active, at least compared to the states.

Guess it would. But as per Triloc's post, not many people care enought to come up with a name in Sweden. That kinda sucks, since I am considering moving there. Guess I'll have to start my own club.

If you do, look me up in Helsingborg and I´ll give you a personal and slightly oval tour de tight ass :p

I'm sure that will all change now that Sweden has its first ever Paris-Roubaix champion. Cyclemania will be sweeping across the country. Huzzah!
