Road Cycling - C'dale R1000 and Mavic Ksyrium or Cosmos

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was in a shop today, and saw a newly assembled 04 R1000 with Magic Cosmos wheels and Ultegra brakes.... Something doesn't sound right. C'dale lists the r1000 as having the C'dale Omega(junk) brakes and Ksyrium Elite wheels. (I know, I just bought one)

I can potentially see an upgrade in the brakes, but this is a downgrade in the wheelset. I can't imagine that they would do this. We're talking a cost/value difference of $250 on the wheelset.

They might have done a wheel swap to sell another bike. I am not sure about the brakes.

Well, yeah, but you would thing they would reduce the price of the bike. The saleman said "that's that way it came in from C'dale, probably to save money"

my lbs told me that bike dealers are having trouble getting the mavic elites and to offset this difference cannondale was going to offer the r1000 with full ultegra and the wheelset would be mavic cosmos, and drop the price 100.00---that is per my cannondale dealer......

i just bought an R1000 at my lbs here in Sarasota, FL. It is currently on order from Cannondale and being shipped from Bedford, PA. What I bought is a bike with full Ultegra, except for the bottom bracket, which I paid to have upgraded to Ultegra. I was told that it would come with Ultegra Brakes and Ksyrium elite wheels for the $1700 asking price. I will be royally pissed if it comes in with anything less than what I purchased. It should come in on Monday, so I'll let you know.

Well I got my new bike today. It had the Mavic Elite wheels and the Cannondale brakes. In review of my order I had said that I wanted the Ultegra brakes, but had not purchased them. At this point I'll keep the current brakes and upgrade later. I rode the bike this evening in a ride with gang from the local bike shop and had a great time. I have to say that I love the bike. It is comfortable and very responsive. I could not be any happier!
