Road Cycling - Whoa, Doggies, New Bike!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just ordered a 2004 Lemond Zurich. I decided on the spot to go with the triple, too. As it is a $30 dollar option now and $200 to change later. I will probably only use it occasionally, but, it is like insurance.
I also ordered a wireless Shimano Flight deck. I am going to swap out the stock Bontrager Race X 700x23's tires for a set of Bontrager 700x25 Hard Cases.
I was also very surprised at the price. The LBS is under new ownership and the previous owner quoted me a price of $2500. When I was finished ordering the bike, computer and a few odds and ends like frame pump, et al, the total cost, including tax was $2575. The price of the bike was $2230!
I was also surprised at how soon it will be here. The old owner said about month to six weeks. As I was standing there, the new owner picked up the phone, called the company, placed the order, and it will be here Wednesday!

Sucks that the first owner you dealt with was a lazy ass.

You know it. I have been in there numerous times and whenever he is not busy, he chats with me, shows me new things that just came in, lets me know when sales will be, and just talks about cycling in general. No way I'll go anywhere else.

Congrats and enjoy.
I've got to be the poorest bloke on this board.
I'd be scared to take a $2200 bike out on the road. Every piece of machinery I get turns to s***.

Gotta keep the good brands in one happy family.
Also I think you made a good choice by switching from the Bontrager Race X 700x23's tires to the Bontrager 700x25 Hard Cases (assuming you don't intend on racing), the Hard Cases are a lot heaver, but the Race X lights tend to crack (alot).

Here it is Monday afternoon and I am about to go to the LBS and wait! I have taken the cleats off my new Sidi Genius 4's, but them back on, adjusted them endlessley, spun the DuraAce pedals, practiced, as much as possible, clicking in and un-clicking....
If it is raining Wednesday, to whom do I complain???
P.S. Wednesday afternoon and early evening, if it isn't raining and you happen to drive through Crofton, Gambrills, or Odenton, Maryalnd and see a large older fellow on a Zurich grinning like a cat that ate eleven dozen canaries (would have said twelve, but that would be gross) , wave and say Howdy!

Hey Jeff - did you get your bike fixed? How's it feel?
I just bought a '98 MJ frame - never used - and am going to build it up w/Ultegra. So, I'm thinking about you.

yep.. got it fixed a few months ago.. rides good as new now... I can't even tell anything was ever wrong with it... surprised all the guys I ride with, especially the couple of guys who were right there when it happened...
I think my frame is a 2001 MJ... the Red and Black one... built up with Ultegra... I though about going Dura-ace... but I didn;t see the need... I just wanted something reliable... didn't have to be top of the line :-)
post some pics when you are done ! :-)

I have taken two test rides on a new Zurich, one for just about 20 minutes and another one for a few hours. There not enough O's in the world to put into SMOOOOOOOOOOTH to do it justice. It is so comfortable. Of course, I am moving up from a Trek Navigator "Comfort" bike, but the Zurich soaks up the bumps, you hardly know you are on a CF/Steel hybrid. It looks nice, too.
When I was buying it and found out it was $250 less than I had been quoted, and since I have saved about two grand more than needed, I almost said "Give me the Maillot Jaune instead," but I resisted. My 34th anniversary is coming up in June and I have my eye on a diamond ring for my wife. Ah, the sacrifices we men make for our women!

Good? Man it is fantastic! Thanks for the weather forecast. By the time I actually get going, my grin will be so wide I won't need any lights in case I ride into the night!
