My daughter has announced she plans to take her bike to France following graduation from college this spring and wants a bike box to pack her Orbea in. I learned somewhere about the time she turned 14 that my place in her life is to follow her around with a checkbook.

So, while I have lots of background in bikes, this is a stumper for me, and any comments about brands, type, extras etc that anyone knows would be appreciated.

Craigslist. I've seen several - one recently on the Chicago list. Naperville was the town.

If she is just looking to get it shipped there safely, consider asking your local LBS for a box. My LBS has boxes like this one lined up on the curb almost every recycling day....

I hard case is the best option.. But, where do you store it , after the airport..Should that not be problem.. That's the reason many of us go with disposable cardboard bike boxes.. My suggestion. If you do, pack it well. Put a sleeping bag about it.. Tape it well. After TSA get thru with the box, it likely won't have box integrity... Tape your miscellaneous parts to something to keep them secure. After TSA ripped my cardboard box, it' s not a wonder the bike did not fall out.. Huge holes.. Accessories were tied to the bike frame; so luckily I lost nothing...
