Classic & Vintage - 1988 Trek 360 questions

I recently acquired a 1988 Trek 360 from a friend who bought it off of ebay. When it arrived yesterday, he decided he did not want it(after having it shipped to my house so I could reassemble or "maybe make into a fixie"). He was vague why he didn't want it, something about it "looked too old fashioned" but it is in my size. He payed $350+shipping for it, I traded him a low end fixed gear bike I had put together awhile back, and called it a day. I figure the components on it have to be worth something. I would rather have it back to down tube shifters anyhow. Girlfriend had commandeered the camera so I can't post pics, but heres the auction link:

So I'm wondering the following:

1. What are the tubing specs on this bike? It was made of True Temper gold label RC1 double butted. The only True Temper specs I can find anywhere are on vintage-trek.com for RC2. I was kind of holding out for a 531 Renyolds 400T Elance, but if this is a similar tubing quality I might build this up instead.

2. Can anyone tell me the model numbers of the Dura Ace derailleur and brifter setup, and what I should ask for them if I sell?

3. Did my buddy get a decent deal? It seems he did by ebay standards, as he only won with $350 bid at the last second, but what about real world standards? I have no idea what the true value of this thing might be.

This is a bottom end Trek bike (but even the bottom end Treks back then were pretty good). $350 plus shipping is pretty high for this bike. I sold a sweet, clean, ready to ride 87 330 for $165, and I thought I got full value out of it. But since you traded a bottom end fixed gear bike for it, sounds like you did quite well on it. And of course, my 87 330 did not have Dura Ace components on it.

And the good news is with the Dura Ace components, you should be able to recoup much or at least a large portion of what he paid for it. For pricing, search completed items on ebay. Then I would pick up some traditional midrange Suntour components, or better yet, a donor bike, and swap out components.

As far as deals, bidding at the last second is typical, and all it takes is one other person to bid an item up, often beyond its value. With its stock components, this is a $150 to $200 bike, delivered to your door. So the "deal" he got is dependent on what you can get out of the Dura Ace pieces, versus what you pay to put something else back onto it.

I was looking at vintage-trek.com, the original brochure was cool, but I wish they had some info. on the tubing this bike was made out of. It's good to hear that the Dura Ace stuff can be resold, I figured that was where most of the monetary value in this bike was anyhow. I will probably part it out over the winter and try to collect the appropriate stuff to get it closer to original spec., as I really don't like brifters anyhow.

Or I may just flip it on ebay or CL as is.
