So years ago I rode a 1998 Trek 5500. Nowadays it's my spare bike that I ride to work or when it's wet. When I bought it off my buddy it had a Cinelli Grammo Titanium stem. At some point I needed to use the Trek as a TT bike for a stage race so I switched the stem out for an adapter so I could use some aerobars. Anyways, I had to destroy the bottom expander of the stem to get it out. (this was years ago so bear with me). So I found the stem in my drawer of misc parts today and I thought, huh it's the same angle..length...I could use it again, it sure is sweet. But I'd have to find the expander bolt stuff. Seems like a challenge...what are the odds I can find that? So should I throw it away? Search for the bolt and expander part?

They are on ebay all of the time, you can check there.
Or find a local C&V shop, it is just a wedge nut, pretty common stuff. This link has a lot of choices, some are in Texas and may be local to you.
