I am about to start painting my grocery getter. I will be using the duplicolor paints as per recommendations on this site. I would like your opinions as to the color. This is my commuter so I was thinking abo0ut yellow for visibility but that might not come out right, maybe a dark green? Bonus points for those who photochop and show me what the color would look like! Thanks.

I'd get really fine sandpaper and do like that wet sanding or whatever its called to make it look really nice and shiny and then put a clear coat over that

I was thinking about that option as well. I thought it might look a little too ghetto?

What kind of bonus points you talking here? I need an incentive. Or do you want us to do your photoshop for you?

Hmm, okay maybe I don't have real bonus points to give, but if you photochop your color it will be easier for me to be convinced of your choice of color.
Basically yes, I want you to do it for me. there... ; )

get new bars too, I don't like the current ones :P

as for color, I like yellow bikes quite a bit. just make sure its not school-bus yellow or anything gross like that

Yeah, the bars and seat will eventually be replaced. These were on the bike and I really don't want to spend a lot on this beater.

Thanks, profound and useful...

I want to see options, that is why I am asking for someone to photochop as I can't do that.

you should grab the paint near the bottom bracket before attempting to paint your frame.... go with yellow

If I ever need to paint another bike, it will be red.

I am getting more interested in a simple brown. I really dont like flashy.

BTW: the Rush is awesome (still)!

I was thinking of painting mine with drab olive green in matte with gloss black striping...but then I just went and grabbed some rattle cans I had around and ended up with a sexy blue/black/white/chrome creation.

try and match the color to your knob. then you could tell chicks 'hey, this bike is an extension of my penis. see?' and whip it out. i pretty much guarantee menage a trois or something awesome like that involving at least one girl.

also, your welcome, in advance.

My frame was yellow and ****ing hated it, so Ive done what you have and stripped to bare metal. I clearcoated it but no matter what aerosol clearcoat chips, so it gets rust spots hella easy

I didnt realize how few colors duplicolor offers. I went with a dark metallic green. I have already started the primer coats and wrapped my new mini bullhorns. I'll post pis when it is done.

As stated, I didn't know how restricted the duplicolor choices are. So i went with what I thought would look best according to the can. I did the primer yesterday and this morning started the paint. It has a few coats on it and it is looking good so far. I am going to let this coat dry for about 1.5 hours, then wet sand and give it a few more coats. I think that I should wait until tomorrow to clear coat it. Seems like most people state that the longer the process, the more durable; of course proper prep work is essential.

paint it kelly green, whatever you do don't wetsand it like someone said...that would just push water into the grain of the metal promoting corrosion. I fabricate for a living so trust me on this one.

Yeah, don't wet sand. I've painted a few frames and I found the best method is to allow each sequence of coats to dry completely...overnight or 24 hours if you can stand it. Then use 0000 or superfine steel wool to buff the paint until it's really smooth. Spray a light mist of windex over the frame and wipe down with a clean rag or paper towel. Then recoat any thins spots or where you might have buffed through. Buff again, repaint if needed. Repeat this process for clear coating.

Thanks guys. Also, I think that I want to add a black strip or two. How long should I wait to tape off that area to put on the stripe? A day?

planyourfate

I would say let it sit for at least 48 hours, but it kinda depends on the paint. I know some more expensive paints need longer curing times. If you got the time I'd set it in a warm, low humidity place (next to a furnace/register/radiator/space heater) for at least two days then use a very good quality or expensive painters masking tape to mask off any areas you don't want overspray. I am currently painting some stripes on a frame and I masked the entire frame except where I wanted the stripes using masking tape and clean white paper. I found using news print can sometimes actually leave the ink behind on the frame which isn't easy to clean off.
