Thought I'd ask if anyone know of a source for a 24" tubular tire. I recently picked up an old time trial bike which uses a 24" front tire, and the wheel I got for it is a tubular. The current tire has a bulge in the side wall that I don't quite trust. Figured if anyone knew a source for one it would be the recumbent riders. Thanks!

That's the only 24"/520 tire they have listed but that's the first place I looked.

Try some of the online retailers listed at the top of http://www.bentrideronline.com/

Vee-Rubber is making the 24 x 1.25" (507 ERTO) available too, but I've not yet located any USA retailers.

Thanks for the leads. I did some more google searching and finally found the right combination of key words. Found a wheelchair part supplier out of Georgia that sells the Vittoria Junior 24" (which is what is on the wheel now) and 24" Panaracer Rapide. Here's the link for anyone else in the future who may be looking: http://www.sportaid.com/catalog/page32.shtml

Glad to hear you found something - not much demand for 24" tubulars these days, it would seem!

cuda2k,

There is, at least, four different "24 inch" wheels. The tires of which, are not interchangable.

507 ERTO
520 ERTO
540 ERTO
547 ERTO

Also, Zach Kaplan has a knack of unearthing difficult-to-find items, so consider him in the future.

If you're aiming for road use, get the Vittoria Juniores. The Panaracer Rapide is very light, but fragile.

Any good road-racing bike shop should have an account with Euro-Asia Imports. They used to carry 24" Vittoria tubulars (and 20", 22", and 26", in addition to "normal" 700C sew-ups). Vittoria no longer appears, but they carry Clement, Challenge, and Dugast tubulars, so they should be able to set you up with something. I'll bet they still have a bunch of NOS Campy for the rest of your collection, too.

It looks like the online catalog is a work in progress:

This ain't surprising since they're wholesale only.

I worked there in 1988-89. I still miss Bob Hansing: http://www.euroasiaimports.com/aboutus.asp

PaPa & Jeff - thanks for the additional info.

I'd found the Euro-Asia website early in my search, but as one can see the 24" tubular section leads to a dead end. I'll probably grab another Vittoria Juniors as that is what is on the bike now and has the best chance of working correctly. I'll inspect the tire closer tomorrow for any additional information about exactly which 24" spec this thing is. The rim appears to be an Araya ADX4 or very similar, but is completely unmarked other than a bike shop decal.

Don't worry about PaPa- he's talking about clincher rims. A 24" tubular is a 24" tubular.

That tire works great. I bought one from the same people for the front of my Schwinn funny bike.

Tufo Junior Pro. As others have stated, I'd call first to make sure it's the right size.
