A friend of mine is returning to Tokyo to visit family in December. She asked if there was anything I wanted her to bring back. Any tips? I would be interested in bargains mostly.

Contrary to popular belief, there really are not any "bargains" out here.
Since it is seasonal and it is the season for it, I say get some Gorohachi sake. It is a very sweet sake that you can only get during this season.

of all places to have a markup on NJS frames, japan i suppose would be the worst.

My brother-in-law says they don't exist anymore.

I was thinking something that my friend could carry in her baggage. Toshi straps, for example. But if the price is practically the same as they are in the states, then I guess I'll just ask for that bottle of sake the previous poster recommended.
Bring back the latest Murakami novel. It's coming out in Japan next year.

no, I think you're an idiot because of your lack of understanding of Japan. You seem to think it's a third world country of total destitution and no opportunity. You could not be further from the truth. You should spend less time trolling messageboards and more time reading books and talking to strangers.

POCKY!! Those are amazing. I had a Japanese roommate in high school, and the kid would bring back the most ridiculous, amazing, delicious foods. I regret never having taken up an offer to visit him in Tokyo.

Get off at Akihabara and just walk around. Pay close attention to stores with cartains preventing from seeing beyond. Also, pay attention to stores selling knives and sorta military stuff. Of course, there is a s3x toy store in front of the trainstation, but that's for ... p0rn you are familiar with. You should also try out some cartoon p0rn store too. It is quite fascinating to observe these stores and their customers. ... You could probably write a thesis on it.

I dont think I have seen any local asian markets or even real authentic Japanese restaurants use wasabi root instead of wasabi paste/powder.
