How can the color be protected by the sun's UV damage ? Won't it fade if it is left unprotected ?

BBM's bike is gorgeous, and it's going to be a head turner...

Ovalized Columbus MAX tubing.

I must be a girl then.

Me, too. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone....... :) Seriously - I think someone went a little overboard with the airbrush, and I'd delete them if I had my druthers. But, the flash seems to really make them stand out - they are much more subdued in person.

@bigbossman ,
Do you have any other frame sets that has MAX tubing in this oversized Ovalized style ?
Just courious , because i am building up a Merckx with this same tubing and the fork is identicle to yours .
I would like to know the quality difference in the ride from other Columbus top tubing . ?

Happy B-Day BBM. You are softy when it comes to red bikes. I'm glad you never took a trip down to Marina to Dr.D's and kidnapped Sporty!

Great looking bike! If I move to Palo Alto, can I see it in person?

Nice frame Bossman. How about a close-up of that seat lug; looks like the stays wrap completely around, or perhaps its just the lighting.

This frame is the full MAX tubeset.

Apart from the first generation of Eddy Merckx MX Leaders, the Merckx bikes were not built with the full MAX tubeset, they were built with a combination of MAX and ELOS.

The Merckx bikes used the MAX fork, the MAX downtube and chainstays, combined with ELOS top tube, seat tube and seat stays.

The seat stays on BBM's bike are in fact a wrap-around stay, which is interesting given that I think this frame was built by Colnago.

I don't have any other bikes with MAX tubing - one with SL (Palo Alto) and another with Neuron (Cinelli SC).
I rode this Dancelli once in October, for 24 miles. I liked it.

I'm old enough so that women look through me, not at me. Makes it easier to be a lech.

Well, someone posted the "reveal" pic I posted over in Foo, so I didn't think more were necessary. Besides, y'all were making fun of the pink and the painted-on sparkles.

Seriously though, I was gone all day today, selling stuff at the SF VeloSwap to help make back some of the $$ I spent on the Dancelli. I ended up selling a couple of flippers, a set of wheels, and a beater Ciocc frame that more than made up the purchase price - and I even nabbed a NOS set of Centaur 10 speed alloy shifters in the bargain.

Go ahead and laugh at my pink frame w/sparkles - this frame-set (and the shifters, too!) was free. :D

Ain't nothin' wrong with pink. the Maglia Rosa has been worn by a lotta tough guys.

Nothin wrong with the color, nor the sparkles, IMHO. It's the ride that counts as they say. Great to hear you had a good day at the swap. We had a swap meet here in Dallas this morning, but after my recent CL buy, I figured it was a better idea to go ride than to browse for more. Good catch on the Centaur 10sp alloy shifters. Wish I'd managed to snag a set of those when I was looking for shifters. All my Campy 10sp gear has the carbon levers. Perhaps a bit out of place on the Gazelle, but with my hands wrapped around them charging down the road, no one is the wiser!

Yeah - it's hard to tell with the flash and the vibrant color working against showing the detail, but the stays just sort of fade away into the top of the lug. It is an interesting effect.

Exactly so. This is a hobby - I enjoy building and riding bikes, and I love posessing and riding beautiful ones. They aren't free, and I have familial responsibilities. So, I "trade up".

Everybody's happy. :)

WTMB,
I have an Eddy MERckx MXL (2003). Are you saying that my bike is part ELOS and part MXL? Do you think that the presence of ELOS tubes takes away from the ride of the MX Leader, makes it lighter or is just a way to save money? What can you expect from a full MXL that you can't from a mix?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

BBossMan,

In looking at your close up of the seat lug back (pic inserted), I noticed a point for concern. Basso Ascot frames, another variant of the Max tubed frames, have a problem with cracking at the thermometer shaped cut-out bottom. The cracks look very muck like the white mark on the driveside of your seatstay/seatlug mating point. You may want to check that area closely for the possibility of a future (and dramatic) failure there.
