I'll post a review once I have had a few longer rides in but by what a difference from my old bike!

nice! I like the new seatpost Bontrager made this year - the adjustment for the angle is far more precise and consistent than the old one they provided in the 2003 version.
What is your size? 54? 56? 58?
how do you like the 31.8 handlebars??
Triple chain rings.
Is this a special order ?

The 04 Treks have 27.2... at least my 5500 does.

shouldn't be - Trek 5200 comes with a triple option quite routinely... like 20~40 bucks to get a triple.

I meant handlebars - sorry for the typo
That thing's a dog, why would you ever want it?

Its a 56. I only had a chance for a short ride 20 mile ride today but it felt great. I had a fitting from a guy who sells Serottas (signaturecycles.com)and he took all my measurments and my LBS set up the bike for me based on those measurements. (Only problem with that is that my wife now has her eyes on a Ottrott). The fitting was worth it thought. My first impression is everything just seems to fall in the right place. The shifting is so smooth. Its great not to take your hands off of the bars to shift (my old bike had the shifters on the down tube).
It also climbs really well. I have about a 1 mile climb back to my house and I normally finish my rides in the granny. Even carrying my extra winter weight and without any base miles in I easily made it up the hill in the middle chainring. My first century for this season is May 16 and I'll post a review after that.

it is easily done - altho I wouldn't recommend it
get a chizel and you can easily file off the clear coat and decals - the cloat coat is REALLY thin...

Why do people want to take the decals off? (I'm assuming frame) I agree that Trek and Lemond use too many and some people are put off by the sheer number of people that ride a similar bike, but why? It seems that we pay a premium for the brand name - why deflate it? Is it to be unique?
That bike is gorgeous...with the decals. Without them, you might as well bought a Scattante/EPX and saved yourself a lot of cash. JMO...

step 1: remove cables.
step 2: black electrical tape on all the tubes.
step 3: put cables back on.
it might not look as "clean" as just not having decals, but it works...i'd just keep them though. it would be cool if some companies offered a "less decals" option. i don't really like the downtube and seat tube decals on most road bikes the DT decal on this trek isn't so bad though. i'd probably just wrap the top tube and maybe the seat tube.

I agree with 55/RAD, and I bought a 5200 a couple months ago too and dont know if yours is the same but I got what they call "Nude (oh baby!) Carbon" and the decals have a clear coat over them; not coming off; Looks sharp anyhow, IMO.

I never in a million years ever thought there was any way on earth I would own a Trek. No WAY! But........... while at the LBS one day he says "why dont you try this one out just for the heck of it, it IS your size". Took the 5200 out for a while and couldn't believe the ride, was fantastic, I didnt want to ride back to the LBS; no way could I leave it in the store either. The LBS dude knew what he was doing,,,,,,,and Im glad. Now she's mine.... :)

Condor63. I am 5'11 with a 31.5 inseam. The frame is a 56. I am changing the seatpost from the one you see in the photo to one with no set back and am going with a slightly longer stem (110 instead of the 100 that comes stock) This was based on a size cycle fitting.
Be very careful when you park your bike. And maybe right your name on it.
I've seen people lock up their TREK only to come out and find a rack full of them. Takes a long time trying your key in all the locks until you find yours.

Yea, I see this all the time. People are always sticking their keys into my Toyota in the Costco parking lot.
Dork.

I got the Team Colours one at around Christmas time. I just love it. you'll have a buzz testing out its limits.
This is not the best shot, sorry. Mine is the smallest frame they make - 50cm according to their sizing.
I love getting off the bike and not feeling like I have been beat up. Will do 170km ride on Friday, my first ride over 100km since getting her.

I own a 04 , 5200 and as much as it rides well , I cant really stomach that everyone is riding my bike!!. Hell even lower models too. I recently fell on my 5200 and it seems as though I cracked the BB area....Im not sure what to do....will Trek replace this ? I dont really care too much anyway to replace it. I am looking at a Bianchi or a Pinarello.

Thiefs steal bikes by the brand name, putting other stickers over decals so the bike isnt so ovious.
Only problem with that is that my wife now has her eyes on a Ottrott
I just want to take a moment here to say that you are so lucky to have a wife who appreciates a nice bike.

Yeah...one of the first thing we talked about when we met was our love for cycling.
The rest is history.
As far as the Ottrott. The fitter who measured me for the Trek had a fully built up
one in stock. That is one seriously beautiful bike.

If she gets one, you get one also (an Ottrott), right? My wife doesn't ride, so I am forced to buy her Ottrott in my size. :D

Lone Ranger, where do you ride? Our club does some rides in Jersey around Brookdale College and Thompson Park. We also run a Century, The Pumpkin Patch Pedal Century in the Fall which is in Jersey.

In the Morristown area, which is a bit West of where your club rides. (Actually, I just moved here so most of my riding has been in the basement.) I went on one ride in the Peapack-Gladstone area, which was very scenic despite a number of hills. I hear good things about riding in the Great Swamp south of Morristown, so I will try that soon now that the weather seems to be breaking.
How do you like the club rides? I typically ride alone or with a couple of friends, but I am considering looking into the Morris Area Freewheelers once I get some mileage in around here.

My club is the SIBA.org. Like most other clubs we split up into 3 different groups. The A group goes out to hammer each other. The B s keep a decent pace and the C group is a much more relaxed pace. It seems the only nice rides are when we ride in NJ as most areas in SI are too congested and there are too many knucklehead drivers that dont show any courtsey to cyclists. You might want to check out http://biketripsnewjersey.org/ as there are a number of cue sheets listed for rides in NJ. Dont forget to check back in the fall for the Pumpkin Patch Pedal. Its a really scenic century without too much climbing.
See ya on the road!
YEEHA! Weather looks good Fri & Sat. I'm gonna break in the new baby! :D

Got my 5200 for Christmas, 1999. After 13,000 miles still a great ride. My only disappointment is the poor quality of the Shimano chain. It snapped 3X on me so now I'm using an SRAM chain. It took a while to break in but now seems to work smoother than the Shimano chain did.
