Hey yall well i was thinkin about tryin to ride home next year(Winter) from Pheonix Az to Little Rock Arkansas (1321 Miles). i commute daily 30 miles to work everyday and like to do 60+ mile trips on the weekend. i normally avg 15+ MPH on all my trips. i would have my wife follow me in a vehicle so i could carry the bare min. do you think it can be done by the avg joe and how long do you think it would take? it would also be a one way trip. i'll ride in the truck on the way back.

Bike: 08 Cannondale BadBoy W/ Rack and Pannier Bags

sounds like you would have no problems at all with the trip as long as your smart about it. Id start doing more and more long rides on weekends and slowly ramp up mileage to where you can do back to back 100 milers (you probably are not far off already) and try to do 70-80 miles or more if your feeling good with that since you can ride with just the basics of a tube/pump/multi tool/food

You have the world's most patient wife if she's willing to follow you for two weeks while you ride a bike.

It is totally doable and you don't need your wife to follow you. You could do it as a credit card tour without many issues if you are willing to take the time. I would try not to do it in winter but really with your level of fitness you are fine, just go for it. If you are doing 30miles/day now in your commute, you have more than enough fitness for the job.

If you want your wife to follow I recommend that you plan meeting points and just use cell phones to handle the contingencies.

Actually, quite a few of us can say that. And if you post this in the touring forum, you'll find even more who can say that.

Travelling light, you could easily cover that distance doing anywhere from 60 to 100 miles a day ... more if you wanted to push it a bit.

Start doing the Century-A-Month challenge (which begins again in January) to get used to doing longer distances regularly.

This is what I was thinking. Your trip might not be cray but your wife might..!
