Hi, I'm putting together a Fondriest cross bike I picked up, but I'm stumped about routing the front brake cable because the cable hanger (which attaches to the fork neck, below the stem) is real close to the stem. It just has very little room for the cable to come down vertically.

I have Dura Ace levers with the brake cable coming out the back, so it can route along the outer or lower side of the handlebars. That works real well with road calipers, but I don't know how to best route it with this set up. I'd like to have it continue as far as it could along the bar, but then it would have some pretty sharp bends getting to the cable hanger.

Has anyone had any experience with this? TIA.

The "Problem Solvers" cable hanger on my cross bike has a rigid pivoting elbow which handles the problem perfectly.

It's such a short cable run, having a couple tight turns of housing isn't a problem. Plus, it never moves (unlike the rear).

The typical solution is to run the cable over the stem then down to the hanger, a slightly rounder turn.

That's what i had to do. Having cross levers exacerbates the problem.

Other options include getting a long cable hanger or a hanger that attaches to the fork brake mounting hole (provided the fork has one).

I've only had the one that came on my Redline... where have you seen it for sale?

Here's what I do... it works even better with a hanger that has a noodle guide; you can really get the stem low with one of those.

Tektro makes them. I use one on my rear end as I dont like the seat clamp cable guide.
